#NowPlaying Peter Hammill - Tears in Time (2026). First listen: as vintage a PH album as possible. Intriguing, expect the unexpected, layered melodies, homographic lyrics. Another one that must grow on you.

#NowPlaying #NP Jackson C. Frank’s eponymous only album from 1965. Never a great commercial success, but one can easily hear how much impact he must have had on the songwriting of a.o. Roy Harper, Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Al Stewart. Right up your street if you’re into these artists.

Those new EU rules to add 3€ to every mailorder from outside EU are making ordering books or music still more expensive. Postage was already high. Wouldn’t it be nice if Cherry Red and Burning Shed created a EU hub to make it possible to order from within the EU? (Or for the UK to simply rejoin?)

#NowPlaying Peter Bardens - The Answer (1970), CD reissue 1988 on Transatlantic. Don’t expect proto Camel. This is decent sixties psychedelic blues with a pinch of early Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era) and Jimi Hendrix.

#NowPlaying Pär Lindh & Björn Johansson - Dreamsongs From Middle Earth (2004). Purely instrumental, atmospheric with a pastoral overtone (despite the rather gloomy cover image). Reminiscent of Mike Oldfield’s Ommadawn (and that’s a compliment btw).

#NowPlaying #VDGG Various artists taking their go at Van Der Graaf Generator songs. It’s a daring and worthy 1995 effort to interpret/recreate these songs, but to me it lacks VDGG’s rawness and energetic delivery.

#NowPlaying (4th listening): Big Big Train - Woodcut (2026). It’s a grower (which is good). Each listen brings more echoes from their past to my ears. Being an aging proghead I won’t be attending their autumn tour. Can’t possibly keep standing (no sitting tickets) for 2 hours plus. Isn’t it a pity?

#NowPlaying Sunday morning concert by the Canadian band Harmonium: En Tournée. A full live rendition of their double album L’Heptade, less prog-folk as orchestration is missing, more of a jazzy folk feeling to it. Quite eccentric and eclectic music. It was recorded mid 1977, only released in 1980.
