I feel like it's worth restating some basics. What matters most as we navigate this moment? How about truth, nuance, humility, compassion, resilience, and care (for starters)? Who in politics reflects these? #NuanceMatters #SharedValues

Anyone else getting the feeling that foundations are cracking? This is not at all a normal political cycle and Canada's upcoming elections are about much more than wanting a 'team' to win. This, if ever, is the time to be strategic. . . My fingers are crossed.

I think many people risk misreading this political moment. It’s not about parties or name-calling. It’s actually about education—about complexity vs. simplicity, awareness vs. fear. And reactionary fear only leads to one place, and it's pretty dark. Just saying.

Cybertruck: because nothing says "cutting edge" like a shoddy $100K stainless steel brick that can actually cut your finger off. I don’t like seeing anyone get scammed. But I’ll admit, it’s satisfying to see the truth about this junk finally break through the hype fog.

I do not belong to any political party. In past, I have voted for different parties, depending on key issues. I also know that talk is cheap - but this talk at least is very good. #canadastrong

We act like we’re solo players, but nothing in nature works alone. Even the trees are whispering to each other underground. So why do we keep pretending we’re in this by ourselves? Ah, Saturday morning thoughts. . . #justasking #lifeconnects

With all the madness out there, I've been thinking a lot about self-awareness and the bits that make us freak out. I expect that our real test isn't to determine our intelligence (or get more of it), but to figure out what to do with it. . .

Time is a funny duck, and I was exploring this with an AI engine that coughed up this delicious morsel:

So I'm having a moment with ChatGPT, exploring the nature of life and consciousness (as you do on a quiet Saturday afternoon), and it throws me this gem:

It occurs to me that genAI might be the distraction. The real gears are in AI's analytical abilities, which are incredibly (terrifyingly?) powerful, and which may bend out of all comprehension our normal ways of interacting.

Yes, I'm feeling traumatized and angered by this stupid unnecessary trade war launched against my country. The aggressor is morally, intellectually, and strategically bankrupt (soon economically), and will hurt too -- but my heart is with my community.

What to do when someone you thought was your lifelong friend just starts punching you in the face for no reason at all, doesn't tell you what they want, and says 'if you defend yourself I'm going for the brass knuckles'?

I'm not sure why I have these thoughts, today of all days, but I woke up having. . . . feelings. . . .

Seems to me that the Big Question for our time is: what do we want to build? Things are going to be wrecked and from the ashes SOMEONE will try to build stuff. Will you have a hand in that - or will you just sit back and watch?

I have seen comments that certain sides of the political isle should behave more aggressively, more pointedly, more like the other side. But the truth is it's always easier and faster to wreck things than to either build them or protect them.

Ronan Reinart @rreinart.bsky.social · 16/01/2025

Today is a day to focus on positivity. Not stick your head in the mud positivity - but that thing that bubbles up when you stare into an abyss and still understand that you can do it. You'll be okay.
