so many housing policies, so little affordability
Meme comparing many housing taxes vs “Just tax land,” with two Olympic shooters aiming pistols in split screen.

When aid depends on proving you're sick enough, some learn to perform it, and administrators learn to doubt everyone. Honest people get caught in that cycle, forced to justify real pain. Basic income breaks the loop. No means test means no incentive to perform, and no reason to doubt. Just support.

Há anos que sigo o Santerns e considero ele um dos melhores do mundo no ativismo pela Renda Básica. Já que esse texto recente parece estar conseguindo alcançar um público mais amplo, faço aqui minha parte pela divulgação...

We desperately need more people fighting for stuff like UBI rather than circlejerking with their in-group about how much they hate AI on social media

‘Keynes predicted we’d have a 15-hour work week. The robots HAVE been taking our jobs — but instead of redistributing the labour, we’ve simply made up completely meaningless, pointless jobs.’ - David Graeber

Story from the book Bullshit Jobs about how David Graeber learnt a lesson regarding the world of work.
"I remember my first job as a dishwasher in a seaside Italian
restaurant. I was one of three teenage boys hired at the start of the
summer season, and the first time there was a mad rush, we naturally
made a game of it, determined to prove that we were the best and most
heroic dishwashers of all time, pulling together into a machine of lightning
efficiency, producing a vast and sparkling pile of dishes in record time.
.
We then kicked back, proud of what we'd accomplished, pausing to
smoke a cigarette until, of course, the boss showed up to ask us what
the hell we were doing just lounging around.

"I don't care if there are no more dishes coming in right now, you're
on my time! You can goof around on your own time. Get back to work."

Of course, we learned our lesson: if you're on the clock, do not be
too efficient. You will not be rewarded, not even by a gruff nod of
acknowledgment. Instead, you'll be punished with meaningless busywork."

A long long time ago, in a far away galaxy... the US used to tax the rich

How has everything gone so wrong in the last few decades? David Graeber gives us a clue as to what has happened!
"Look at the 1950s when there was the expression - What’s good for GM is
good for America - which made sense at the time when you consider that
GM was taxed at 60–70%. They were producing enormous profits, and most
of their profits went to the government, which in turn used that money to build
roads, highways and infrastructure for the cars, so it became this virtuous circle.
.
Fast-forward 50 years, and companies like that are paying no taxes. They’re
getting all their money from the financial sector, not from the cars, which are
not profitable anymore. Instead, they charge people interest, and use that
money to lobby politicians to change the laws that regulate them to be able
to extract even more. And that’s basically how the American system works,
and that’s why Wall Street and the government become almost
indistinguishable.
.
Government coercive force becomes a means through which profit is
extracted, and that’s why suddenly you have this change of how people
perceive one another in relation to this system."
.

Enough dystopia. Just do universal basic income and tax the rich. Stop coming with ways of determining the deserving. Provide universally and tax those with high incomes more than they get. Done.
