"He was passionate, emotional, defiant, deeply gifted, cultured and sometimes crude and uncouth. He loved, he hated, he raged, he lived life like it was going out of style. And for him, it was." GM Aleks Wojtkiewicz passed away 20 years ago today. What a life: www.uschess.org/index.php?op...

yes sure what "shoppers" are "saying". even if you were of the opinion that people write most internet product reviews, when was the last time you were comparing a coffeepot and a toaster

Sicke burn, Sir
Number 23.

If I was he.

Ah! what if you was? Why I would do so and so. No, Sir, under the same circumstances, you would just like him or worse.

from Noah Webster's "The Prompter"

Scott Rose @rprose.bsky.social · 18/06/2026
noah webster. he goes on for several pages in this vein and then also lists the phrase as #8 and continues with part 2
from "the prompter" by noah webster

Number 7

It will do for the present.

This common saying does as much mischief in society as rum or a pestilence. If I hear a man, whether a farmer, a mechanick, or any other person, often repeat that saying and appear to act from the opinion, that it will do for the present, I rely on it he is a sloven, a drone, or something worse. I never knew such a man to thrive.

points 3 & 4 of the resolution:

3. To confirm that teams composed of players who are citizens of the Russian Federation may be
eligible to participate in FIDE team competitions under a neutral flag subject to the further FIDE
Council decisions.
4. To instruct the FIDE Management Board to develop and implement a procedure for the
inclusion in the FIDE rating system of tournaments held in the territory of the Russian
Federation and for the assignment of FIDE IDs to citizens of the Russian Federation. In
accordance with CAS Award (par.#2) this procedure excludes the aforementioned territories.

I guess this is cool, and a vote of confidence for Proctor, but it still seems like the wrong incentives for Titled Tuesday. If you're a CM or NM and you get to play an occasional blitz game against a famous GM, that's it. That's your prize! It's a good prize! www.chess.com/news/view/ti...
new, increased titled tuesday prize fund tables. $2500 will be allocated to prizes of $250 or $100 for players who don't finish in the top 10, including prizes for 'best game', 'streamer prize 2' and 'top non-IM'

tie break rules at TePe Sigemen & Co 2 blitz games; if tied, sudden death games until someone wins. Blitz: 3 min + 2 sec / move Sudden death: White 2.5 min + 2 sec / move, Black 3 min + 2 sec / move
Magnus Carlsen won and Arjun Erigaisi only drew in the last round, meaning they'll need to play blitz tie breaks. a format Carlsen is famously strong in. Screen grab is the table after 7 founds with Carlsen & Erigaisi tied on 5/7. #chessfeed
