End of the road for The Mamas & The Papas - they split up, Cass heads off to her solo career. Have a great week, everyone 🙂 #WeekendSingles

The next four from The Mamas & The Papas. Twelve Thirty unaccountably failed to hit the UK top fifty, but remains a favourite of mine. #WeekendSingles

Working through the brilliant run of singles unleashed by The Mamas & The Papas for Sunday's #WeekendSingles. Here's the first four...

The chazza I was just in had the radio on, playing Mary's Boy Child by Boney M. In September. 🤬 Anyway... I did pick up this brilliantly mental stereo test LP from 1967, so the trauma was worth it. #WeekendSingles #AlbumAlmanac

This week's #WeekendSingles finds: A post-apocalyptic ditty from Tim Rose and a classy soul number from The Moments, both on my want list for ages. On the #AlbumAlmanac front, 2 lovely Creedence Clearwater Revival records, UK Liberty 1st press - they wipe the floor with the US Fantasy originals.

We saw them opening night, at St Peter's Church in Poole. Quite an emotional occasion, but with the compensation that it only took us about 60 seconds to get home... 😂 We didn't get a support, though - I'd heard we were getting Nick Heyward, but only St. Etienne on the night...

Greeting from #Dorchester Borough Gardens. After a long day yesterday (all that record shopping is exhausting, you know) we're having a bit of a chill out. #Dorset

I came, I saw, I shopped - at #VinylVan in #Dorchester. Couple of long sought #WeekendSingles and a couple of Creedence LP's 😁

Still debating a trip to Weymouth, but Vinyl Van definitely on the agenda 🙂

The #RollingStones stayed here when they played Weymouth in August 1964. Word spread, and they waved at a mass gathering of fans from the bow window on the first floor. Then, they apparently had to be smuggled out in the back of a local bakery van...

Just checked in at the King's Arms in #Dorchester - I think we'll be just fine here for a few days 😁 And I see there is a record shop in town... 😬 #Dorset

Last #WeekendSingles from me, and it's more soulful stuff to get the feet moving: The Contours, Donnie Elbert, The Isley Brothers and Isaac Hayes. I need a rest after these four... #MusicSky #VinylSky

Some choice instros from the soul boxes for #WeekendSingles: The Mohawks, Willie Mitchell, Booker T. & The M.G.'s and Al Kent Orchestra. If one wasn't so arthritic, one would be shaking one's booty, let me tell you. #MusicSky #VinylSky

Some of Bob Dylan's early UK successes on that minimalist design classic, the orange CBS label, with accompanying company sleeve. #WeekendSingles #BobDylan

Oh, that made me chuckle... Trying to imagine Sugar Sugar with Roky on lead now 😂

Richard Phillips-Jones @rpjwrites.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

And yet The Archies meant nothing in the UK when Sugar Sugar came out - I don't think the cartoon was even shown here until Cartoon Network arrived years later. People here must have thought they were a real group ! 😂

I sometimes find it strangely therapeutic to play this very loudly. I suspect the rare and unusual RCA company sleeve is worth a lot more than the actual record... The Archies - Sugar Sugar (1969) #WeekendSingles

Random 60's hits from the L to M box: Roger Miller (as covered by The Proclaimers), Los Bravos, Marmalade's finest moment and Colin Blunstone moonlighting as Neil MacArthur and revisiting The Zombies. #WeekendSingles

Slim #WeekendSingles pickings today, but I picked up The Church's first UK LP from 1982 (with She Never Said + The Unguarded Moment), and Space's Magic Fly from 1977, which I wasn't allowed as a child due to an iffy track title on side 2 so had to settle for the single for 49 years... #AlbumAlmanac

Not had the #WeekendSingles out this week, but I did unearth these brilliant NME playing cards, circa 1991. You had to collect them over multiple issues, if I remember rightly. Mark E. Smith had to be a Joker, obviously.

It's well trimmed on the 7", cuts straight to the chase. But yes, brilliant at its full length.

I had vague thoughts of filing some stuff today, until I opened the first box and decided I couldn't be arsed. Came across this (very) random lot, though: The Motors, Neil Diamond, Julian Cope and the always welcome Françoise Hardy. #WeekendSingles #MusicSky #VinylSky
