There's hardly any grey area for me. I don't care how minor your use of AI is - thumbnails, flyers, mood pictures, throwaway scripts - I consider all of these equally bad, because I see AI as an inherently evil technology. If you are an AI supporter or apologist, we probably won't be friends.

Since this seems to no longer be people's default stance, it's time to make a statement: I'm 100% anti-AI. AI can go fuck itself. I will never use generative AI or AI automation for anything I create. My only use of AI in general is as an advanced search engine, and even that I limit to a minimum.

I do remember liking it quite a bit. Had absolutely nothing to do with Final Fantasy whatsoever, but I think it was an enjoyable movie.

It's just criminal that all of its re-releases have been so ass! 😭 The GameCube version is still the definitive one in my eyes.

I think we'd get along perfectly, lol! Not only are like two thirds of your list also favorite games of mine, but I so rarely see people loving Tales of Symphonia. It was quite the formative game for me (though I guess largely because of when and with whom I played it).

Always such a pain when that dick cramp just won't go away. Luckily, Irena is very ambitious and on her way of becoming the top doctor in town! 🙂👍

The drawing is cute! 😌 Also, in concept, this feels similar to what I do with my Windows task bar. Ungroup and spread out all the tasks so that I can get to any given task with the minimum amount of clicks and mouse movement.

I was really hoping for a liberal OoT remake bold enough to even piss off some long-time fans, which is funny, because we kinda both are and aren't getting exactly that. In terms of gameplay, it seems like a very safe remake. The graphics are incredibly divisive, though, and I quite love that.

I tend to describe it as "slightly cursed, but also really fantastical-looking". I think it looks quite pretty in a lot of areas, but does have some rough areas. It does capture the vibes of exploring a phantasy world, though. That part they nailed, I think.

The border is definitely much smaller than on the Switch 1, at the very least. For what that's worth. I think it might be related to the fact it's using a non-OLED screen. From what I remember hearing, the Switch 1 OLED model has way smaller screen borders still. OLED probably just needs less.

Could totally see them establish a team for working on more linear, "classic" Zelda games, yeah. Aonuma specifically talking about how Ocarina of Time plays differently from modern, open Zelda games in the Direct almost feels like his admission that there's some merit to this style of gameplay.

Sheik's identity has always been one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming, and the remake somehow makes this even funnier thanks to newly added voice acting and even more pronounced feminine features on his appearance. It's like Darth Vader wearing a plaque reading "Proud father of Luke Skywalker".

My personal guess would be "newer, less experienced team working on the remake and messing up here and there". I think it's almost safe to assume this wasn't made by one of Nintendo's big, established development teams, since those will usually develop brand new games instead.

This toy feels like the good and healthy kind of overstimulation. Looking at it and playing around with it probably gives a comparable amount of dopamine to doom-scrolling, but without the harmful impact to one's mental health.

I'm at a point where I'm not even sure I'll be buying it. I still have the SNES cartridge at home. I just don't like it when devs create something that doesn't remotely live up to what fans have already created and then want people to get hyped.

The more I hear about the Terranigma "remaster", the more disappointing it sounds. I really seems to be just a barebones effort of a port with "authenticity" used as an excuse for not going any further. You could just include umodified versions of the game along with modified ones, you know?

RPG Hacker @rpg-hacker.de · 26/08/2026
Good point about the CRT filter. That is indeed a weird pairing, at least when used as the default.
010
RPG Hacker @rpg-hacker.de · 26/08/2026
So technically speaking, the aspect ratio of Terranigma here isn't necessarily wrong, since it's rendering at the SNES' native aspect ratio. Some people still prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio of their old TVs for authenticity. In the best case, they'll just make the aspect ratio configurable.
120
RPG Hacker @rpg-hacker.de · 26/08/2026
Technically speaking, the SNES's aspect ratio never was 4:3, it was 8:7, hence the almost square-shaped image. It was only the TV of the times stretching the image to 4:3. Some games' art was designed around this stretch, some wasn't. So whether a game looks ideal in 4:3 or 8:7 depends on the game.

That video is pretty old, maybe also slightly embarassing nowadays, but I'm still proud of it. For some more recent work, while I didn't create the VWF patch for Terranigma myself, I did help bring drop shadows back to it and thus make the text more readable: x.com/TerranigmaR/...

Absolutely huge thanks to @RPG_Hacker for implementing a new font system for the translation hack! Now letters can have a drop shadow making many things so much more readable. Compare before and after...

In case my last couple of comments got some people checking out my profile, here's context for some of my SNES experience. Over 15 years ago I created a VWF text system for Super Mario World. Still maintaining it today. You can see it in action here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2gl...

I'd absolutely be willing to do it for Terranigma even for free, since I just want to see the game get a perfect official release. Oh, also, I work for a THQ Nordic company myself, so like... surely there's an opportunity here? 👀 Might not even require a new NDA, since I already have one. 😄

Anyways, @clearrivergames.bsky.social , and this is a serious offer: I know SNES assembly and have created VWF patches for SNES games before, including some prior work on a text-related patch for Terranigma itself. [...]

The fact the text boxes look this way also makes me slightly concernced this is just the original PAL ROM running under the hood here, which notoriously had some issues and cut content compared the Japanese NTSC version. I hope you're aware of all that!

That's possibly one of my biggest wishes for a remaster, and it seems like the most uncontroversial one. I know many people who are fans of the original but still dislke the text boxes. Fixing them could even open up the possibility for a future retranslation (though that's another topic).

RPG Hacker @rpg-hacker.de · 24/08/2026
- Why was the original font of the game replaced? The new one definitely feels off and weird. Were you not able to use the original one? - Talking about the text, and this is probably my biggest complaint so far, are you not gonna fix the kinda ugly letter spacing in textboxes? [...]

- For something calling itself a remaster, there seem to be very few things actually remastered aside from the soundtrack? - I'm not sure I prefer the new soundtrack over the old one, so I hope (and am confident) you'll give us the choice to play with either. [...]

Slightly sad it's not a remake, but that's on myself for letting the hype get to me when I should have known the chances were slim. Still super happy the game is finally getting a re-release, and on so many platforms. It just deserves to be played! That being said, I do have some concerns: [...]

Addendum to the last statement: I'm finding some very conflicting information on that. It's very possible they only published specifing versions of that game, like maybe a specific physical release or something. They do list the game on their website, so that's where I got the info from.

RPG Hacker @rpg-hacker.de · 18/08/2026
Tried to do some brief research myself, and apparently they're just a publisher. So they don't develop anything. So ultimately, all three of these are possible, since it would likely be handled by an external developer. Apparently this dev published one of the Trails remakes, for example.

Man, that is such a "standing on thin ice" announcement. I really hope they're fully aware of the expectations raised with that post. 👀 My "prepare for the worst" brain is already anticipating something really silly like "we're bringing the Terranigma soundtrack to vinyl".

I feel we do experience this quite a bit in our society, where people who've had a big impact live eternally (musicians like Mozart, or even dictators like Hitler). On the other hand, most of us probably don't even know their ancestors from just two or three generations back.

It does feel kinda accurate in a lot of ways, though. I don't remember who said it, but there was this famous quote of how you die a second death the moment a living person has thought about you for the last time.
