Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 09/10/2026When it comes to assimilation, the irony is that it is the MAGA crowd that is having difficulty assimilating to America as a diverse nation, one where immigrants have played an important role. The immigrants themselves are doing fine. 000

Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The combination of Trump’s racism and his authoritarianism give him a floor of 30% or so. 010
Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Why then don’t we write his name as “Shee” and the capital as “Baysheeng”? Since we are using Roman letters to reproduce Chinese sounds, why not use letters that produce sounds we are familiar with? It looks funny, but it would clear up a lot of confusion. 110
Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The structure is being so built so quickly and without regards to safety codes that it should be demolished for national security reasons alone. 010

Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 17/09/2026At a time when even Republicans are trying to distance themselves from Trump‘s harsh immigration policies, it is worthwhile to emphasize that Trump broke his promise to concentrate on the worst of the worst. 1541

Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Another important asymmetry is that the media harass Democratic candidates far more about people like Piker than they do Republican candidates about extremists on the Right, some of whom are actual candidates. 160

Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Medicare reimburses so much less than much private insurance it always seemed puzzling that people claimed a MFA system would be more expensive than private plans. There would be additional usage, but not enough to make it more expensive. 000
Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Converting to a complete MFA system all at once would not work, but you could start gradually lowering the age of eligibility. And introducing universal coverage for kids. 240
Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 05/09/2026I've dealt with Medicare as a physician and now as a patient. As a physician, I recognized that it reimbursed much less than private insurance (and that will be a big obstacle in implementing MFA), and as a patient I've been very happy with it. It's been better than my previous BCBS plan. 221

Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Isn’t it somewhat self-selecting? Those students who do have an emotional investment in local community issues will make the effort to vote, and those who don’t, won’t. 110
Randall Plant MD @rpfromak.bsky.social · 13/08/2026You are most affected by the laws of the state in which you live, not the laws of the state in which your parents live. It therefore makes most sense to vote in the state in which you spend most of your time. 100
