I am deeply saddened by the news from the RCMP that a woman lost her life during the Bald Range wildfire evacuation. My heart goes out to her family, friends, neighbours, and all those who knew her and will miss her.

The situation in Clinton & surrounding area is critical. The Fiftynine Creek and Pear Lake wildfires pose a serious threat & evacuation orders are in place. If you are in an affected area, leave immediately. Don’t wait. Follow direction of emergency officials & stay safe.

When smoke cleared around 5 p.m. yesterday, fire behaviour increased rapidly and remained elevated through the night. The fire continues to progress north, towards the southern flank of the Ainslie Creek wildfire.

Thanks to the swift action from our #BCWildfire Service, the majority of new wildfire starts are being kept under 10 hectares. For the first time in Canada’s history, we used drone technology to complete planned ignition on active wildfires within the Brunswick Fire Complex.

Widespread thunderstorm activity is forecast this week, bringing an increased risk of lightning-caused ignitions. Although winds are expected to moderate somewhat across B.C., strong and gusty outflow winds may accompany thunderstorms as lightning activity increases. #BCWildfire

#BCWildfire update ⬇️ Warming & drying conditions are expected to persist throughout the week, expanding further north & west across BC. Increasing temperatures & limited precipitation will continue to reduce fuel moisture levels, elevating the potential for new wildfire starts.

We’re taking action to grow B.C.’s value-added forestry sector. Through a new category within BC Timber Sales, we’re securing more fibre for value-added manufacturers, providing greater certainty for custom cutters and processors.
