I think economically there are different potential tax breaks, etc in neighbouring states. Eg: in the NFL the Chicago Bears are considering 2 sites for a new stadium. The Indiana site is nearer the current stadium & comes with financial support from the state. The Illinois site currently does not.

I think those days are sadly long gone- there wasn’t a gallery across the whole site that was any less than busy when we visited earlier this year. None of them came close to the insanity of La Salle des États, though- I only wanted this crowd shot but still ended up trapped in there for ages.
Many people tightly packed into La Salle des Etats privately wondering if it was really worth the effort.

Disgusting photo and you were clearly right to have been cautious. The full article’s paywalled, but the first couple of paragraphs suggest the paper was at least calling out the people in the photo for their, er… costumes. Basic translation:-
On 5 September in Siluté, pots of fish soup were simmering, whilst around one of them a team of chefs danced, dressed in black costumes and portraying Black women. This performance did not go unnoticed, not only by the festival's participants, but also by the Lithuanian Human Rights Centre.
The fish soup cooking championship is an event with deep-rooted traditions in Siluté. However, this year quite a lot of discussion arose not because of the taste of the fish soup, but because of one team's costumes. Around one bubbling pot, women were bustling about, dressed in black costumes with rope skirts, their lips bright red. These costumes were intended to depict Black women.

Oh so NOW we believe in the constitution and freedom and all that other bullshit? Now that it turns out that giving Trump incredibly favorable framing, sanewashing him, and both-sidesing every criticism of him didn't protect you? Good luck with the face-eating leopard, idiots.

On 19 November 2025, Schjelderup was convicted of a child pornography offence after he admitted to forwarding a Snapchat video containing two boys under the age of 18 engaging in sexual activity to four of his friends. He was handed a 14-day suspended sentence. He had previously posted a statement about the incident, which happened when he was 19, calling it a "stupid mistake".

Yet to find anything in writing, but it’s not artistic license on the part of the painter. This engraving by James Sargant Storer (1771-1853) shows the stairs from the water leading up to the other side of the same wall in the painting- the chimney topped buildings here also don’t exist today.

The gate opened directly onto the Thames- prisoners were rowed into the tower and taken up some stairs. There’ve been points in my lifetime when there’s still be water at the foot of the stairs, but it’s been drained for a good while- this photo’s what it looks like if you were to visit today

Twitter - formally known as X, since owner Elon Musk changed its name in 2023 - is a cesspit of hate, intolerance and bigotry. Which is one key reason why I am now in my 18th year on the site and cannot imagine leaving.

Far too simplistic a take- the economy/living standards/media manipulation/politicisation in the interests of the 1% are the predominant factors in what’s happening here. The original of this cartoon’s always been the most succinct summary of the issues.

Dude apologised (and the headline wasn’t as disrespectful as it sounds out of context )
Addressing the criticism head-on, the journalist behind the piece issued an apology, took full responsibility, and explained, "I write for an NFL website and during the off-season we often times find any topics to write about that is even remotely correlated with the NFL. ...The SEO keyword I used for that article was NFL.
That is quite literally the only reason why | used that title. Never in one million years did I think it was coming off as disrespectful." Veteran journalist and correspondent #JemeleHill also weighed in, noting that writers don't always have final say over headlines and that multiple factors can come into play before a story is published.

During the mid-2010s, Elon Musk's Boring Company went around the country selling cities on its car tunnels as solutions to their transportation woes, but rarely delivered any tangible product. Take Fort Lauderdale: The city needed a new train tunnel and went to the Boring Company. But once a deal was signed in 2021, the Boring Company instead sold the city not on building a train, but rather on building a tunnel for Teslas to the beach. As of earlier this year, nothing had been built, and local media was reporting that the deal could be dead.

The most egregious false solution may be the Hyperloop. The modern version of the concept was proposed by Musk a decade ago as a pure hypothetical. Musk, a noted public transit hater, saw it as a way to reduce support for California's planned high-speed rail line between Los Angeles and San Francisco. "It seemed that Musk had dished out the Hyperloop proposal just to make the public and legislators rethink the high-speed train," reporter Ashlee Vance wrote in his 2015 biography of Musk. "He didn't actually intend to build the thing." Musk's ultimate hope?
"High-speed rail would be canceled," explained vance.

Sugar played a solid mix of tracks from their back catalogue (Copper Blue/Beaster/FUEL/b-sides/tracks from their live album). I think the only difference between the two sets was the addition of Come Around on the latter date. Great fun (the Beaster tracks were the highlight).

Enjoyed rewatching Stalker, although the bit during the opening scene when Stalks & his Mrs are lying awake in bed as a passing train makes that bloody glass rattle around the table will always be really annoying- just stick a bit of paper towel under it or something for God’s sake people!

Captioned subtitles: ‘and shouting, “He deserves a Nobel Prize”’Shot from Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky- A black dog stands in a half-flooded courtyard. There’s debris all over the shop and patches of scrub have started to take hold.

Captioned subtitles: ‘All right. I’m going to get a Nobel Prize.’A shot from Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky showing the Professor (played by Nicolai Grinko) and the Writer (played by Anatoly Solonitsyn) looking in the same direction whilst almost sitting back to back in some derelict, overgrown place. The Prof’s rocking a cool woolly hat with a bobble.

Captioned Subtitles: ‘Unselfishly.’A shot from Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky showing a close up of Stalker (played by Alexander Kaidanovsky) lying on some damp scrub with one arm wrapped around his head and looking aghast, or possibly dead. Happily we’ll see him move his arm a bit less than 10 minutes from this point in the movie so he’s very much/mostly still alive!
