"...the first chip I worked on had 200 transistors. I knew every one by name." - J. Huang What complete bullshit that is, among some of the other crap he spewed. It sounds like he was just making up crap that sounds plausible to most people listening to him.

This was so long ago, but I now I think I recall that we put in heavily doctored up pics, I think they plastered the glasses, nose, and mustache over me making a face. Not really sure why? Probably just thought it would be funny, it was a small team of oddballs.

I miss having Horde with piles of machines at work. Now that it's just me and my machine, I avoid engine builds as much as possible.

UE Engine code is interesting, while there is some coherency, there are so many cooks and there is so much of it, you find so much variance when you dig in. It's still kind of amazing it works. I'm no expert on it, but I have made changes and fixes in the past for our projects needs.

LOL at that image, that photo isn't even me. Sorry, but I don't know where any of that source ended up, but I kinda doubt any of it is still around anywhere.

God forbid they make a new IP instead of reusing an existing successful one. Far too much risk otherwise, for those poor little CEO brains.

Sadly, some of it can't be undone, particularly in areas of foreign policy. We can't get back the original rose garden, or the original east wing, and the damage done to science and medicine have lost us so much. Best we can hope for is undoing what we can, and replacing/fixing what can't be undone.

I think step one in healthcare reform is forcibly separating healthcare insurance from your job, No group health plans beyond a family. Force the insurance companies to compete for families and lets individuals choose providers that meet their needs best, instead of having little choice.

Of course, he focuses on the price complaint, and not the real problem here... why the heck is Commodore selling a damn phone at all? Especially one that is almost certainly going to be low volume and likely be a net negative for the company.

I coded up slerp (spherical linear interpolation) back in the late 90s for quaternion skeletal animation. Since then, I've just let the engines deal with quaternions...

They may want to do it for real, but if the negative feedback continues, I could see them backpedaling to save face. Or at least a smart business would... It's sad to see them start down this path.

Please add a description of the scoring rules? Also, I see it matters what order you select words of a category in, but why? Maybe for your first guess, if you click the shared word first, that is worth scoring? Although it's displayed in middle after you have 2 solved...

Roy Eltham @royeltham.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
Decent set. The yellow was pretty easy, and once I got that the purple jumped out at me, as well as the blue, I clicked the green one before blue because I thought it would be blue, since what ended up blue I thought should have been green. I didn't find this any harder really than Hank's puzzles.

The purple category feels like a bit of a reach...

I got 91 words and a score of 70,750, but I noticed the pattern after a couple dozen easy words. I feel like I would have failed 5-6 of the harder words if not for the pattern in the answers. and the way their formula works I'd have scored more like 50k or so.
000
Roy Eltham @royeltham.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Yeah I took the test, and it noticed a pattern. The 4 answer choices for most of the words comes as, the correct answer, something the opposite of the correct answer, and then two completely unrelated things. If you notice this pattern, you can get words you don't know down to a 50/50 choice.

I think it's really cute that people from states with less population than Los Angeles county (40 states FYI) complain about how long counting takes in California and comparing it to their state's counting time. Like they just have no sense of the scale...

I had almost the same progression, swap C for C++ on the Amiga, and my first 3d stuff was on 386. The progression from VGA frame buffers to GPUs and then shaders and so on was pretty crazy and fast...

It was in July 1991, I has just turned 22. The crowd singing along for some songs was crazy... Dennis DeYoung would just stop singing and the entire crowd just carried it.

Sting was during the Soul Cages tour, and it was a couple days after he had been on SNL with that funny bit with the Copy machine guy (Rob Schneider). Between songs when Sting was chatting to the crowd, someone yelled out "Sting-a-ling-ding-ding-dong" and Sting broke down laughing. Neat moment.

I just listened to the music and melodies, didn't pay attention to the lyrics. It's got a lot of effects and reverb/flanging making it sound dreamy.
