#OnThisDay in 1977, NASA launched the Voyager 1 probe to study the outer solar system. It's still transmitting data, and at over 15.9 billion miles away is the most distant man-made object. In 1990, Voyager 1 took the famous 'Pale Blue Dot' image, showing Earth from over 6 billion kilometres away.
