Sorin + Hidetsugu's Second Rite : kill 1 player. Land Tax + Scroll Rack : mono white draw! Those are Classic old school commander tech. What's your favorite old tech you use(d)? 👀

2026-02-09 - Gavin : "The brackets are meant as a tool to guide pregame conversations" Pic from the 2025-10-01 update on the bracket system. A control deck is not optimal per say and doesn't need game changers or combos. It's about creating an environment where inevitably you'll win.

You'll also find cards that care about their own colors. Green cards love when you play green creatures! Defilers are a good example. This will attract less hate than a true color hoser like King Crab. To be fair, you should play both. 10/11

Chosen color The obvious choice will always be the enemy color. If you play WG, black will be a good choice. If you play enemy colors tho (ex : UG), don't choose your allied wedge color. Since both are enemies, it's interesting to choose one of the 2 (or both). 9/11

Clones Clones will help you protect your commander (that says other creatures) or will give you a second or third color to name for Painter. 2 main colors would be my choice, giving access to a pool of higher quality hosers. You can also copy your other cards in play (ex Nantuko Blightcutter) 8/11

T Mage can also get you Lightning Greaves if you already have Painter, the medallion of the chosen color or the darksteel 2 mana artifact that gains you life for each spell cast of the chosen color. Another great tutor is Defense of the Heart, which can get you Painter AND a clone! 7/11

How to get Painter in play. Creature tutors and artifact tutors are premium here. But let's not forget cards like Muddle the Mixture that can specifically get Painter or Long-Term Plans that will get you whatever you need. Tribute Mage is another specific cheap option that is flexible enough. 6/11

Tam is already interesting to give colors to more stuff, which plays super well with Painter Servant! When Tam is in play, it doesn't matter what color we choose, since she will give hexproof from that color to our creatures and each card in that game will be that color. 5/11

Also, protection spells are not flexible enough compared to a tutor. These are some of the interesting options I found : Eight-and-a-Half-Tails Tam, Mindful First-Year Padeem, Consul of Innovation Saryth, the Viper's Fang Shalai, Voice of Plenty I personally love Tam for its interaction. 4/11

Okay Working on a Painter Servant deck. There's so many directions to go. How do we get Painter Servant in play. Do we use a tutor commander? What color do you name? How do you protect Painter Servant. Can the deck work without it? In this essay, I'll explain my thought process! XD 1/11

Duel Commander has such a weird ban list. Recently, they added Invert Polarity to the ban list. Reason being : "Invert Polarity's ability to drastically swing games as early as turn 3 through coin flips has proven problematic for player experience and creates unnecessary frustration." 1/3
