Thank you to everyone who helped make our very first Chicago Charity Convention Crawl a success! We invite all attendees to fill out the post-convention survey: forms.gle/sziH5r91b8GA...

A graphic that’s mostly text of our post-convention rundown

Thank you to every single attendee, Game Master, venue, and helper who made our very first convention crawl a success We couldn't have done this without you!
We wanted to share some stats from our very first C4
Volunteers: 20
Weeks to Plan: 6
Games Played: 33
Unique Players: 58
Average # of Venues Visited by Unique Players: 2
Players who Visited More than 2 Venues: 11
Magic Items Purchased: 36
Free Magic Items Granted: 110
ICE Dragons Killed: 1 (the hugest)

And lastly...
Money raised for OCAD: over $1,500!!

The funds we raised together will go to mutual aid. But what does that mean? In this case, our donations will support immigrant families in Chicago, IL who have been directly impacted by deportations, or have a loved one detained.

Mutual aid goes directly to families for:
- Rent
- Food/ groceries
- Essentials such as utilities, diapers, & medication

We are so proud to be part of this nerdy little community that came together through the joys of gaming and telling stories to help bring a little hope back into our world. We look forward to running the Chicago Charity Con Crawl again in the future and seeing the good we can accomplish together!

The Chicago Charity Convention Crawl begins this evening at Moonflower Bar! To help you get started, we’ve organized the convention games and other events in a handy alignment chart so that players have a way to more easily consent to the depth of difficult topics they’re up for

A content alignment chart for games and programming at the Chicago Charity Con Crawl. Because consent is cool.

Chaotic: Games
Lawful: Programming
Good: Light & fluffy, good for those who need a break from the weight of the world
Neutral: Difficult topics may come up, but touched on lightly and with extra care
Evil: Readily delving into the darkness to face difficult topics and themes head on

A series of games at this weekend's con crawl are part of "Kill It Keep It" where the player who drops the BBEG to 0 HP wins the mini! All weekend, you can play "activation" games that affect the showdown with boons like magic items, lair effects, or information! Because we're stronger together 💜

A shadowy blue silhouette of a dragon, with these words:

The Road to Face Ma'Gaah

The ancient ice dragon Ma'Gaah is causing mayhem in our city, but the valiant heroes of Chicago are ready for the fight!
All weekend, there will be "activation" quest games that can directly influence the final boss battle. Gather resources, protect innocents, push back against lies and despair spread by the dragon's minions, or battle those minions directly. Every action against the vile Ma'Gaah is worthy and needed.
Battle the forces of evil all weekend long, then witness or even join the final Kill It Keep It championship on March 29th at Replay Lincoln Park! The lucky & determined player who drops the BBEG to zero HP will claim the ice dragon mini!

ACTIVATION QUEST LOCATIONS
• MOONFLOWER BAR •
• REPLAY LINCOLN PARK •

Big news from us regarding this year's C2E2 (and why we're not only not going, but putting on our own event - more on that to come!)

After learning that C2E2’s sibling company is involved with data collection for ICE, and finding meaningful ambiguity in their privacy policy regarding data-sharing policies within their parent company, RELX, we reached out to dialogue with C2E2 leadership.

We asked for clear, public assurances that convention spaces would be free from ICE presence and enforcement activity. While organizers shared that they have long-standing internal safety protocols and are actively reviewing public-facing policies, they declined to make explicit public commitments regarding ICE presence or cooperation.

For our team and much of our community, especially in the face of the horrors that Chicago has been subjected to at the hands of ICE, that lack of clear public assurance creates too much uncertainty.

We are a queer and BIPOC-driven company with deep roots in our nerdy Chicago community, and as such we will always stand with people over profits.

Rough Magic has decided we cannot in good conscience be involved with C2E2 until all ties with ICE are thoroughly severed, and we have declined our 2026 contract.

Rather than asking our community to navigate that uncertainty or skip C2E2 alone, we're building something intentional. During the same weekend as C2E2, we'll be hosting a city-wide charity "con crawl" rooted in community care, mutual aid, and play.

Not every vendor, entertainer, and guest had the option or freedom to step away from their contracts. If you are working or attending the convention please stay safe, take care of each other, and keep showing up for justice in the ways that you can.

More details on the con crawl coming soon!! ❤️
