You're living in the past! 😁 I noticed the same kind to a lesser degree with satellite TV, but that was usually just 7-8 seconds behind in my observation.

The kool aid guy in Guyana? Oh wait ... you more likely mean the rapper.

Ironically "kitchen table" issues are for me easier to accept more right wing positions on than fundamental rights. Strong agree calling the latter "cultural" is terrible messaging, implicitly accepting they're unimportant. They are often higher salience to a smaller group of people.

Fair. We can contrast Talarico's stance with El Sayed and Bashear. What they may or may not believe personally matters way less than their public position. I have some vague recollection Talarico had previously made pro Trans rights statements that he now is walking back. But I may be wrong...

Are hash tags case sensitive? If so you could be construed as offering a preference for short men. 😁

Culture wars framing trivializes attacks on people's rights. If it were just, say, is rap better than country it would be unimportant to politics. But it's about abortion, same sex marriage, transgender rights, things politicians can usually affect more directly than the economy!

Well put. Notable and sad that James Talarico has ceded the trans in girls sports issue as well. I'm open to the possibility that there's sometimes a tradeoff between fighting for your principles and electoral success. Did Beto O'Rourke's gun control advocacy cost him the race against Ted Cruz?🤷‍♂️

Culture wars should be over, say, whether rap or country music is better. Instead the term is used to trivialize and implicitly condone attacks on some people's rights.

Which was true of his colleague Lindsey Graham also! Side note - asked during a push poll to say something I liked about Cory Booker, I replied that he was still unmarried. I'm his constituent, but hadn't heard he got married late last year. So he is no longer a spouseless Senator. Too bad...

My pop psychology take is that he was trying to one-up his daddy, and "finish the job". Agree it was very much his fault.

If he spends his off-season readying for 2027, might as well stick around for another 2-3 starts to pass Don Sutton. Tom Seaver would require more effort.

I'd have no problem with him going all Tony Soprano on the perpetrators (figuratively, not literally). Alas, my Jersey congressmen is the guy who disappeared for several months, so we need to count on another part of the delegation...

Not so much for Mason Montgomery! He had been perfect in September before that: 11 appearances, a win, and 10 saves while allowing no runs.

True, although that's usual for US elections. I'm not sure if there ever was a president who won a majority of eligible voters, at least since popular vote was a thing. You could technically say Washington won all eligible voters because only electors were eligible.

Another minor point of correction: Trump got only 49.70% of the popular vote in 2024, so it was a plurality, not a majority, that voted for him. uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/

Not just a judge - a jury found him to have raped E. Jean Carroll in a civil suit. That's akin to a California jury finding O.J. Simpson was liable fir the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in a civil suit.

Wow. All the rest are below .400. The NBA was similarly divided last year, with just one team between .400 and .500. This is only one between .400 and .600, and that just barely. I guess tanking is a thing in the W, too?

I was going to say something like this. In the 2016 campaign Trump rose in the polls when the news was mostly about Clinton, and Clinton rose when it was mostly about Trump. But perhaps the coarsening effect he has on our culture outweighs the gain of him alienating a few at the margins.

for well connected men. Some people are above accountability, and Trump gets to decide who they are. It was a flex of power.

The hearings were symbolic. That Trump didn't replace him with a different judge without that baggage who would have voted similarly presaged his norm breaking and lawlessness in other areas. Kavanaugh being accused, like Trump, of sexual assault, became a totem showing that was acceptable now

Hard to top the likelihood that he attempted rape while in high school and the "I like beer" quote in the popular imagination, but legal scholars will remember the stops. And in the longer run, they may be the only people who remember him at all.

Will try to remember. FYI, your post is marked as being in Akan, a language in Ghana. I once mistakenly set that myself. There is a language list between the + and the character count, and you can tap that to set/change it. The default seems to remember what had last been set there.

Ironic that "Twitter is not real life" faded from the discourse after its purchase by Musk and it became more right wing. But maybe they viewed it as a feature, not a bug.

On 3 there was the 8th CD in Michigan where Tom Smith, who had dropped out already, won the Republican primary over a Trump endorsed candidate, Amir Hassan. So already it's had an impact.
