Ford is (a piss-poor excuse for) the premier of one Canadian province, Ontario. On the federal/national level, Canada does indeed move in some progressive directions. I blame aging white rural voters for Ford’s majority government. I just hope we can be rid of him before 2029. Elbows up…

Happy Thanksgiving and gratitude above all. My Whitney ancestor crossed from New England (Maine) into what is now Canada back around 1800. He doesn’t seem to appear on any loyalist lists. Part of my gratitude is for him. Thank you, GGGGrandpa W. You’ve no idea what a gift you gave to so many of us!

I don’t see why an artist’s opinion on a political matter should be more important than that of anyone else. Speak your mind by all means, but don’t expect everyone to agree.

I have a lot of respect for Rush. Their musical abilities and longevity are amazing. What I don’t get is people taking Geddy Lee’s endorsement of Brad Bradford for mayor of Toronto seriously. The is the vocalist who sang Neil Peart’s Ayn Rand-influenced lyrics, live and in the studio.

TheJason whatever must be a total asshat. He oughta move to the southern version of Howdy Arabia, AKA Texas. Should be OK unless ICE grabs him. The whole Alberta independence thing looks to me like Ottawa trucker convoy v. 2.0. Whiny asshats who make me go “Canada: Love it or leave it.”

I’m proud to say I cancelled my Amazon membership long before Bezos appeared on the podium at inauguration 2025. I quit all things Meta that January day, and I left Twitter/X when Elon started yakking about taking over. Apple, Google, and Microsoft are harder for me when it comes to breaking up. 😕

It wouldn’t be the first time for the USA to stage a false flag scenario. This administration lies constantly - the Russians are known liars since forever, but Russian influence is real, and Putin’s hand can be seen and felt clearly when 47 opens his pie hole and his sycophants pile on the praise.

I lived in San Diego for more than three years. I saw firsthand all of the military bases in/near the city. 47 boasts about how much he loves “our servicemen and women” and then he invites the evil empire du jour to bomb the city where these “warfighters” are stationed. That’s just mental as fcuk.

Did the kinks book come in a plain brown wrapper? (Or has my mind wandered into a gutter 😐 ?) A friend introduced me to his significant other and told me she was a dancer. I was a full-time road rat bass player at the time, so my sensible (?) response was “Exotic?” Turns out the answer was ballet.

“Howdy Arabia” could easily describe Alberta *and* Texas.

1/2 I’ve been seeing a new phrase recently, new to me at least: “residential school denialism”. An “ism” is a defined system of beliefs, and in this instance the core belief is that the prevailing knowledge about residential schools is entirely wrong. Essentially, the core belief is based on a…

2/2 There were many CBS stars who made cameo appearances on Gunsmoke. But did you know the horse Lorne Greene rode on Bonanza was also the horse James Arness rode on Gunsmoke? I read it on the Internet so it must be true, right?

1/2 Considering when the show ran, the audio is unexpectedly good. I treated myself to the DVD set - all 20 seasons - and optical out from the Sony Blu-ray player -> Benchmark DAC/headphone amp -> Sennheiser cans is glorious. Dialogue replacement on location scenes is fun to listen to.

The Blues Brothers got a whole lot of their inspiration from Toronto’s Downchild Blues Band. Dan Aykroyd was a regular at Grossman’s Tavern (“Toronto’s Home of the Blues) and I believe he was good buddies with both of Downchild’s Walsh brothers, Donny and Hock.

Makes me wonder: Do our Canadian security forces know the identities and whereabouts of every CIA agent in Canada? We can’t grow bananas here, so can’t really be called a banana republic. What does MAGA want from us most of all? Potash republic? Oil and gas republic? Real beer republic ?

Great venue - the Grievous Angels don’t come to TO all that often. This is a great opportunity to see and hear the band in a unique setting, a room designed specifically for musical performances. I’m not missing this one - hope to see some BlueSky people there :)
