Not enough of these people grew up religious. A powerful being will punish me in the future for not serving it now? Especially now that I've heard of it? Yeah, I've heard that one before. Hardly groundbreaking.

Add 3/8 to both to get 4 7/8 - 2, then subtract the 2 to get 2 7/8.

It can vary. For me it's alveolar in "telling" but dental in "tamales."

"A Short Stay in Hell" makes the Library of Babel into a hell where the way out is to find the one book that tells your own life story, with no spelling or grammar errors.

Yes. I personally find it more comfortable to sing parts instead of the melody-only version in the Hymnal 1982 -- and Vaughan Williams wrote good hymn parts. If singing melody only, lower voices may prefer it to be a bit lower than it's usually written.

This is an accurate description of Sacred Harp singing!

Beethoven's 7th, especially the slow movement. Or the slow movement from the Bach double violin concerto.

Some are more floral than the label might suggest. I wonder if "unisex" means "fragrance free" or a fragrance with less gendered associations.

Man in my 40s; friends seem to come most easily through hobbies. In my case, choral music and other singing, but anything that gets your friend into the same room as other people with shared interests could work.

I don't think we do, the the point that it's weird seeing it in the wild. Like, "I forget what this means but it looks like a slur, should we really... oh, right, that's what it means -- I have no problem with this."

"Improving" or "improved"? Sometimes I say "Better -- not well, but better."

I'd change it to 75% of 60, then think of a clock and remember that three quarters of 60 minutes is 45 minutes. So, 45.

Personally I found that explanation confusing when I was confirmed. Didn't I already renew my baptismal vows on the first Sunday after Epiphany? And at the Easter Vigil? And a few other times every year for several years?

I recall that 144 is 12 times 12, divide one of the 12s by 4 to get 3, and multiply by the other 12 to get 36. 144/4 (12*12)/4 12*(12/4) 12*3 36

Reversing it to sing HOTRS to the Cleansing Fountain tune is pretty fun, too! (...know I'm one.)

I agree with Evelyn. I'll just add that if you want one quirky side trip, Gilgal Gardens is a local sculptor's backyard turned into a city park. Where else can you see a sphinx with the head of Joseph Smith? But it won't be as informative as the museum.

Also, what are you looking for? History, art, nature? Weekday/weekend? How much time do you have? Of course, stop in at St Mark's! @stmarksslc.bsky.social

FWIW the LDS Church History Museum is self guided, so it's easy enough not to talk to the missionaries. The daily Tabernacle organ recitals are good for a briefer Mormon experience. A lot of the other LDS stuff (where a missionary might want to talk) is closed for Temple Square construction.

Done, thanks! We do not need soulless content-stealing machines to have a role in The Episcopal Church.

No "Far, far away on Judea's plains"? Sometimes I miss that one, this time I'd year.

I remember noticing it pre-pandemic. It's most noticeable when the inversion is bad. In clear air you really only notice the light on the statue, not where it's coming from.

Same -- I love to see a baptism at any age, but I treasure the memory of my own full immersion baptism at age 8. Thanks for bringing it to mind.

Except for rye whiskey, where "spicy" seems to mean something on the clove/cinnamon/nutmeg spectrum of baking spices.

I'm in a cathedral choir and I'm an okay pianist (can play hymns). Not a composition expert, but I'd be happy to take a look if it helps. Will DM on Twitter.
