I've had good success with their seeds and they have a large catalog. I like to buy locally as well

I got my opuntia from a Fb marketplace encounter. I was buying something else and saw the pads and commented on them and they said please take them all 😄. I am a fan of prairie moon though, they have some hard to find seeds

Do it! Amelanchier is one of my favorites. Fall color, berries and delightful little flowers. It is susceptible to cedar rust though and I missed out on the berries this year :/

I pre-ordered some bare root Castanea pumila or Allegheny Chinquapin trees for spring. Anyone else have experience growing them?

The article is about tropical milkweed, the title really should be more specific

I'm torn between my love of prairie grass and my love of trees. I have about 30 trees on my .3 acre and some will eventually shade out my pocket prairie so I'm enjoying it while it lasts

Symphyotrichum lanceolatum or white- panicle aster. This one showed up on its own when we built our pond. It tends to colonize disturbed areas. I'm hoping to catch some photos of frost on these seed heads
Cream colored seed head puff balls a bit larger than a pencil eraser in focus with more blurred in background. Dried brown narrow wrinkled leaves on stems

Same. Requested my third chip drop of the year to kill more lawn and collected and spread some seeds around. Also volunteered for some local projects.

The runner stems on fragaria virginiana are more reddish and the flowers are white. The non-native has yellow flowers

Salix discolor aka American Pussy Willow is an early pollen source for native bees and a larval host for several months and butterflies. Something has been enjoying mine. It is easy to root from cuttings and loves water. Don't plant near your foundation. #nativeplants

Pycnanthemum muticum or clustered mountain mint is found naturally in woodlands and meadows in the eastern US. Buzzing with insects all summer. Check out the splash of purple on those unassuming flowers.

It's possible they will pop up next year. You won't see much growth above ground with the false indigo the first year, they are mainly putting down roots. Mine only got to about 6 inches. Love the zinnias. They're my favorite filler plant while I wait for my perennials to mature

Also reading this one! I have two mature red oaks, lots of red oak seedlings, a young bur oak and I added a white oak this year. I adore the white oak leaf shape.

Did you try winter sowing your seeds? A lot of native plants need cold to germinate. I had good success sowing in December

Liatris ligulistylis is a monarch magnet. I got about 20 cats this year and monarchs daily from that addition. They seemed to prefer laying eggs on the swamp milkweed.

Native prairie grasses such as schizachyrium scoparium. They turn over their root systems often and the roots go deep so you'll get more improvement than just the topsoil

I also have clay soil but I'm trying it in one of my drier spots amended with sand. Fingers crossed.

My pipedream is that everyone will plant lupinus perennis like it's the new milkweed and the karner blue butterfly will come back to Pennsylvania. What's your niche interest? I'll plant for it too. #nativeplants

By far my favorite garden addition this year has been the wildlife pond. It has supported birds, frogs, toads, dragonflies, beetles, snails, mud dauber wasps and aquatic plants. Hummingbirds came to visit the cardinal flowers. 10/10 would recommend #nativeplants
