Sunday morning weigh in for Dora Just 45g to go until release weight and she can go back in the wild where she belongs

Ross Hutchinson @rossitv.bsky.social · 18/06/2026

As lovely as it is to be looking after them- All of these hedgehogs should still be in the wild. All had their nests disturbed at a CRITICAL time. *Here’s the important message*: if you have a garden or look after an outside area- Leave it wild, for now, these guys need all the help they can get

And in Pen Three is Rosalina and her three. They were picked up in a school playground and are closest to permanently leaving the nest but still follow their mum around.

In Pen Two is Capri. She has six young and gave birth in the hedgehog rescue. (This was the moment they first experienced the outside). Capri is EXHAUSTED with keeping them all fed and sometimes takes herself off for a rest. Who can blame her?!

It’s now full with mothers and their litters. In Pen One is Jessie and her three VERY young hoglets. She gave birth in a box after being found out in the day distressed in a yard. There were worries she’d abandon her babies but she’s being a fantastic mother:

At my allotment I have a ‘hedgehog rescue’ - working with a wildlife charity It provides safe outside space for hedgehogs that need a bit of looking after before being released back into the wild… (important message coming up!) …

My second bisque fired batch of pots out the kiln. I’ve yet to make two that look the same… but figure I must be developing some kind of skills 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've been to meet the truly remarkable botanist Dr Margaret Bradshaw. The 98-year-old has been recording the flora in Teesdale for decades and we talked about plants, legacy, and how the area has adapted to a changing climate. You can see the full report here: www.itv.com/watch/news/a...

What a difference a year makes: This time last year my dad and I were heading into surgery, as I was able to donate a kidney after his failed. Amazing nhs teams and a bit of luck means it was a complete success! Today, dad’s chilling out with his appropriate mug, and I’m doing pottery!
