The summer bedding at Lytes Carey might be past its best but perfectly epitomises the onset of autumn.

I find it awe inspiring to stand somewhere ancient. This is the chapel at Lytes Carey Manor, built 1343-8, with the window replaced in 1912 as part of a major restoration but including fragments of medieval glass.

Interesting visit to National Trust Lytes Carey Manor in Somerset today. The chapel on the extreme left dates from around 1343; the ‘new’ addition on the right, added as part of a major restoration, dates from 1907.

The very first touches of autumn come to the oak tree.
A tall hedge of Hazel, beyond which a large rounded Oak is showing some golden tinged leaves. The background is a clear blue sky.

Pale peachy colours to this evening’s sunset.
Hills silhouetted in the middle distance, a young tree in the right hand foreground and, in the distance, peachy coloured stripes, pale blue gaps and a diagonal stripe of dark cloud illuminated on the lower edge by the recently set sun.

Glorious sunrise.
Silhouetted rooflines, beyond which the dawn sky is a riot of pinks, peaches and oranges - mainly wispy clouds but a few tiny pale blue clear patches as well.

I must have missed thousands of wonderful posts over the last four weeks but moving house has taken up our every waking hour. Already, though, the new sunrise is measuring up.

The one thing guaranteed to drag me away from my dawn writing session is a colourful sunrise.

That’s a lot of beach today. Westward Ho!, North Devon, mid way between low and high tide.
A wide expanse of sandy beach, exposed by the tide, stretching into the distance as far as the eye can see. To the left, low waves are breaking gently. The sky is a mixture of blue and cloud.
