My friend Grace runs a monthly comics opportunities newsletter that includes comics job openings she knows about, but it's more focused on open festival apps/submissions type stuff. substack.com/@gracedesmar...

Yay I'm so happy my advice was helpful and you had a great time at MILK!!! :D (also if you want to travel to the East Coast in the future...MICE is my favorite and the con I do the highest sales at, and TCAF and SPX are also cool & well worth it)

CXC: some of the worse sales I've ever made at an indie comic con which shocked me until I was told low sales are super normal here. Dunno if CXC moving dates will change that. I think it was worth it for how cool the programming/art exhibits/etc was but I wish someone had warned me about the sales.

Now, if sales numbers matter to you this was my experience... CAKE: by far the best sales, one of my top sales cons. A2CAF and SLICE: OK sales, these are one day events with <1k attendees and the sales reflect that even if I think each can punch above their weight class there's a ceiling you know?

Erin Roseberry 🔜 SPX B5 @roseberrycomix.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

SLICE: really appreciated how helpful and hands-on volunteers and staff were and the post-con breakfast for exhibitors was a great way to meet people. CXC: amazing programming, I recommend coming in early to do the Billy Ireland library tour and doing as much panels/talks/etc as you can fit in.

CAKE: fave midwest show I've been to. Loved Chicago and everyone I met there, really cool vibes, strong sales. A2CAF Small Press: pleasantly surprised by how enthusiastic the crowd was for my work--great if your target audience is students/academics. Amazing free lunch too.

Thank you everyone for a wonderful time at SPX! I’m very happy about the strong reception for Transformation into an Animal. I love indie comics! Indie comics forever! Now it’s time to take a break and show Captain Chris, my plush wolf assistant, his ancestors.

I guess I’ll have to necro that thread in a few days. As someone that is a both a highly successful comics seller at these shows and has given a lot of advice to newer exhibitors (including artists coming from the anime con context) I have a lot of Thoughts.

I wanna get on the fan merch displays at indie comic con discourse but I’m too busy selling comics at the actual indie comic con lmao RIP me

1120

Erin Roseberry 🔜 SPX B5 @roseberrycomix.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

And if you’re not a specialized comics seller you can simply choose not to apply to the indie comic con you gotta take on big expenses to fly out to and get a hotel for. There are other types of cons!

010

Erin Roseberry 🔜 SPX B5 @roseberrycomix.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

It’s especially dumb because a half table at an indie comics festival rarely exceeds $200 for a weekend. These aren’t big anime con prices! If you’re local that’s not an impossible bar to clear with a modest comics inventory.

Hey SPX if you’re in the bought a copy of my constellation chart print and accidentally left it at another table it’s been returned to me—come back to B5 to claim it!

There’s been multiple versions of the Rosh Hashanah griffin, this is the first artwork from 2019, which was also sold at SPX 2022, and has a long history of online popularity. Griffins were an important symbol to medieval Ashkenazim and I’m singlehandedly bringing them back. Chag sameach!

I'm sorry I haven't been around a lot, I've been very miserable and in rough shape since I had a bout of food poisoning (???) in August. I hope this will pass and I can get back to everything sooner rather than later. If you see me at SPX please be nice if I seem off.
