What's more scary is that tales of unrest in the UK sound a lot like "day X" the fascist myth of a race war. Having read Dreher's latest piece, I no longer think one can call him simply misguided, or concerned by the prospect of violence.

With all this talk of civil war in Britain, it's interesting to note how much more imposing, physical, even militarised the police in France seem. I've seen 3 or 4 groups of armoured police in different stations today, including in a small provincial one.

The left wanted to use the state to improve people's lives, the right wanted to reduce it to give people more freedom. But Trump, and the other populists, are not small statists. They are nativists, isolationists, but often willing to use the state to shape the country to their own ends.

I went to school with Katie. I'm very interested to see the direction she's taking. Regarding her point, what does she actually mean? Anyone granted asylum won't be given benefits? Most of the people who come here do so for a job, so they should be able to support themselves.

As a young reporter in Northern Ireland I twice saw kids squirming on the ground in agony after being shot in the knees by the IRA. The memory still haunts me. Kneecap should be free to sing whatever they want - but why do they choose to celebrate such a vicious form of torture?

I came away from this longing for a different kind of male influencer, who steers men away from the the temptation to blame feminism and wokeness. One who encourages men to develop emotional skills, and makes it clear that emotional immaturity impacts others, especially the women in their life.
