(Me flirting) Did you know microbes in the human body contribute MORE to the human body’s survival than our bodies themselves? And there are more microbial genes than human in our bodies? We just big ol’ walkin’ terrariums. The sauce: www.nih.gov/news-events/...

This was my official last day of work at the U. of Edinburgh. Leaving this place (and these people) is hard... I grew so much in these 7 years. I cannot believe the shy postdoc that was scared of telecons (pre-pandemic times...) is the same starting a new adventure on the other side of the ocean.
This is a selfie. Rosa is on the left side of the picture, she has a sad expression as she looks at the camera. She had long brown hair and wears blue and brown glasses. She is in front of an empty laboratory bench, completely clean. This has been her bench for 7 years, and today it is the last day of work in this lab.

Yesterday it was university of Pittsburgh - today it’s Penn. I fear this will soon be a grimly long thread of more gratuitous Trump/Musk inflicted disabling of America for the long term www.thedp.com/article/2025...

Penn to reduce graduate admissions, rescind acceptances amid federal research funding cuts
Penn notified department chairs that it will cut admissions across graduate programs — a decision faculty members say will force them to rescind offers from newly-accepted students.

Although I won't start my position @Cornell until May, today I just the key of my new lab! 🤩🚀 I don't think I am realizing it properly...

Do you know a UK-based wheelchair user who works in a lab and would be willing to user-test our prototype of what is believed to be the first-ever lab coat adapted for wheelchair users? Please share far & wide! Interest form: forms.office.com/e/66FhcQjqRT More info: www.ucl.ac.uk/ucl-east/new...
Two photos of Anna, a young white woman using an electric wheelchair, wearing a blue lab coat that fits her well with tables and dry-lab equipment in the background. Text reads: "A team of researchers and designers led by UCL is looking for wheelchair users working in wet lab environments to user-test what is believed to be the first-ever prototype of a lab coat adapted for wheelchair users."

Last #UKCA Christmas dinner with these amazing bunch of people. I am going to miss them deeply.
People from the UK Centre for Astrobiology making silly faces at the Christmas dinner. Some of them are sitting and some are standing.

Last day of ESA-ESF workshop. A very nice occasion to hear good science, but especially for networking and catching up with colleagues (some of them more friends 😀).
