Steve Cropper, guitarist and member of Stax Records' Booker T and the M.G.'s, dies

A gentle man and a fabulous musician. When the Stax sound erupted in the mid-60s, soul music felt as raw and black as a midnight ramble on the Chitlin' Circuit. But Memphis soul was a creation of an integrated band. A night to play Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. www.npr.org/2025/12/03/g...

BESSENT: I know I come across as a bot, but I'm a prototype, okay?

Every 4-5 minutes, a new story breaks. The pace is dizzying. And nearly every story is rooted in a lie, or a lie in development. But, we are earnest and try to keep up, no matter how debilitating the exercise.

Reality check: Van Epps margin of victory was 9%. The swing in favor of Democrats--Trump won the district by 22 points in 2024--was 13 points, not 15. Van Epps won 13 of 14 counties. Credit Aftyn Behn with a hard-fought Pyrrhric victory. Democrats still must learn how to win rural voters.

Indiana contributed approximately 210,000 soldiers, sailors, and marines to the Union during the Civil War. Indiana's war-related deaths reached 25,028 (7,243 from battle and 17,785 from disease). It would be a shame if their sacrifices were sullied by this plot against democracy.

"NPR's Tom Bowman spoke yesterday with a U.S. official who was not authorized to speak publicly. This official disputed the White House's account, stating that Hegseth issued the command for 'two strikes to kill' and two additional strikes to 'sink the boat.'" www.npr.org/2025/12/02/g...

AI poses unprecedented threats. Congress must act now | Bernie Sanders

AI datacenters require massive amounts of electricity and water. A small AI datacenter can consume more electricity than 80,000 homes. A large one, like the one Meta is building in Louisiana, is the size of Manhattan and will use as much electricity as 1.2m homes. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Despite the speed at which it is progressing, AI is getting far too little discussion in Congress, the media and within the general population. That has got to change

They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I say bad journalism is having the same liars on TV over and over and expecting to learn the truth.

In the winter of 1848-49, American sailors aboard the frigate SS Independence introduced measles to the Hawaiian Islands. A grisly pandemic of measles, whooping cough and dysentery ensued, claiming 10,000-15,000 lives. I compiled this history a few years ago. It remains germane. (A THREAD, 1/6.)
