Final draft was a 2-1 in Norritt Cube with Jund stats and removal. This low powered environment with old jank cards was pretty fun. My curve was a tad high. Overall not my strongest event but nothing to complain about and had an amazing time. Thanks to @joe-cube-anderson.bsky.social and the judges!

Day Two started with a 1-1-1 result in Tiny Cube, a desert cube where you play 30 card decks with physically tiny cards of CMC three or less. I just needed to untap and attack with Phlage in my draw. And my loss was to Thassa’s Oracle also while I had a lethal Phlage attack on board.

Next we have a 2-1 in The Salt and Pauper Cube. Deck was just okay, I didn’t lean heavily enough into cards that make material or generate value. This deck needed a Battle Screech or Triplicant Spirits.

California Cube Champs thread! First up was a 2-0-1 🏆 in The Promised Land, one of my favorite cubes. Great Academy/Tinker deck with (pre-flipped) Conqueror’s Foothold to rebuy win conditions. Picked up my first ever draw on Hedron through.

I’ve been tempted to make a video in your style advocating for 540s. Maybe I’ll get around to it someday. :)

CubeCon day 4! 0-1 dead in Aqua’s Powered Cube but had a great week! Thanks to all the staff and cube designers.

CubeCon day 3! Locked up top 64! 2-1 in Mono-red with a cool Weapon Manufacturing/Goblin deck. 3-0 in Samwich’s Peasant with RG trample. 3-0* (finals opponent scooped to save us time) in Good Clean Magic in the top 128. UW fliers is nostalgic for me.

CubeCon Day 2! 2-1 in The Legend of Bloodwake Atoll, a desert cube, with UR cycling. 2-1 in Innistrad to Eldrich Moon: the Golden Era of Standard, with rW aggro. 1-2 in the side event in The Floor is Lava (start with Sibsig Ceremony).

CubeCon thread! Day 1! Loved both cubes! 2-1 in the Prequel Draft with UW control in Bourbon Cube. 3-0 in the side event with GB in Curated by Kiwi (cube list is a secret so I won’t post my deck). #mtgcube

Lots of reasons! - The restriction breeds creativity - I love every game being so different - Making do with what you've got and not being able to rely on a specific card leads to interesting decision making - There is something "clean" about it (EDH and Canlander would be worse without this too)

I like the legends. They seem magic-y to me. I’m adding a few to Enchanted Evening but likely won’t add the super hero origin sagas.

Howdy folks! My cube, MV:1 is up for voting today for CubeCon. Lots of great cubes today but please consider doing a practice draft of mine and seeing if you like it! Thanks! cubecobra.com/cube/list/mv... #mtgcube

Loving all the updates to hedron.network! It is so cool to look back on past events and see my deck pictures and records. Thank you @gdekker.io! Also I can‘t help but brag about being 3rd in the ELO rankings. I’ll have to continue going to events to keep my spot… #mtgcube

I’m taking Mana Crypt over Sol Ring and drafting an assertive deck. There are too many 3-drops that can single handedly win the game now-a-days. Casting them on T1 is worth the few games where you die to your crypt before you end the game yourself.

My top 64 draft of #cubecon2025! Eliminated last year’s champion in the first round of A Study in Harmony but lost the next one. Drafted a pretty mid bant enchantress deck that had 4-5 cards off theme due to lack of playables. Top 32 is still great, what a fun week! #mtgcube

Slightly late CubeCon main event day 2 post. 2-1 in TLDR and 3-0 in El Classico. Finished off the day 3-0 in my top 128 draft of Six Drops where I picked depletion lands over any other card in the draft. #mtgcube #CubeCon2025

Day 2 of CubeCon, and the first two main event drafts. 2-1 in both my own cube and Lavender Desert (amazingly designed). Then 3-0d the Late for Dinner side event in Cascade Cube with affinity. Fun day overall! #mtgcube #CubeCon2025

First couple of CubeCon drafts in the books! Lost both finals which stings but still a solid day overall. Played Omnipresent Imposters and The Ball Pit. Interestingly only maindecked one imposter. Had a super tough matchup vs control in draft one, and died to onboard effects in the second. #mtgcube

She’s all checked in! For those at CubeCon, give Enchanted Evening a try. In my (very biased) opinion, exploring synergies of an often forgotten card type is a hoot. cubecobra.com/cube/overvie... #mtgcube #CubeCon2025

Wayward Games in Vancouver runs cube at 6pm on Mondays. I don’t think we currently have any groups on Sundays… if you’re in the area consider joining the PNW cube discord: discord.gg/ehkevnFK

Rory Straubel @rortimer.bsky.social · 28/07/2025

I’m no expert… but if you want to pull off some typal synergies seems like you’d want like 8 creatures of the same type or more. Truly I don’t know though lol

110

Rory Straubel @rortimer.bsky.social · 28/07/2025

I think in general typal cubes can be fun! These specific cards (and ones like them) sometimes seem like the juice is not worth the squeeze. I could just spend 5 mana casting a creature instead of the first artifact. And the second is 4 mana invested for +1 mv payoff.

120

Rory Straubel @rortimer.bsky.social · 25/06/2025

I lean heavily on my tight play to win games of cube, so I tend to draft too “safe.” I end up with solid decks but I don’t take enough risks during the draft for my decks to be truly great. Too afraid to train wreck, essentially.

Rory Straubel @rortimer.bsky.social · 18/06/2025

My cube, Enchanted Evening, is up for CubeCon voting against a bunch of (admittedly cool looking) artifact cubes. But would love a chance to show the world that enchantments are sweet too! #mtgcube #cube #CubeCon2025 cubecon.org/vote cubecobra.com/cube/overvie...

I really liked Classic Magic, it was nice to play some fundamental Magic between the more wacky cubes (which I also enjoyed).

Rory Straubel @rortimer.bsky.social · 27/05/2025

11-1 and 2nd seed going into top 8 is more than I could have wished for! The Top 8 competitors were all super nice. Won the quarters vs mono white by going over the top, and the semis thanks to fumigate out of the sideboard against a bigger UG deck. Finals loss to mardu control. Grats to the winner!

Fourth draft, decided to audible at the last second and choose Data Generated Vintage since I was confident in my ability to at least 2-1. Went 3-0 with a middling Naya deck thanks to Gut cheesing some wins.

Rory Straubel @rortimer.bsky.social · 27/05/2025

Third draft, 2-1 in the bolt cube where you start at 3 life and have a 25 card deck. Lost to reanimator. Fatal Push and Cut Down don’t help much against Eagles of the North. Helion Crucible was great.

Rory Straubel @rortimer.bsky.social · 27/05/2025

Second draft, 3-0 in Classic Magic. Felt at home playing an aggressive and disruptive deck.

Just got 2nd at Washington Cube Champs so figured I’d do a thread despite having never posted on here. First draft, 3-0 in Brawl Partners Cube. Swapped around my commanders as needed but Tamiyo + Phlage let me grind out the finals. #mtgcube #WCC

Love that cube will always be available! Sad to see that it is only single elimination though. It's fun to play all your matches and try to eke out the 2-1 to get your tix back. Unless you're the best of the best it'll become pretty unaffordable to jam lots of drafts.
