Peta says bring back Łink @petabytes.bsky.social · 17/10/2023

There's been a real push on this site for people to use Alt text, which is great. But people are still unsure, which is less great. Here are some tips and an example from Dr Amy Kavanagh (BlondeHistorian on Twitter) who is a blind person and consults on accessibility.

My alt text top tips:
1. If there is text, include it.
2. What stands out to you in the image? A red coat? A skyscraper? A dog? Describe it!
3. Think about context. If it's a fashion picture tell me about the clothes. If it's a group photo I don't need every outfit described.

Image description - Guide Dog Ava (described in Amy's words in the next image)

Amy's image description

A close up of Guide Dog Ava's snoot. Ava is a golden retriever, her dark nose and muzzle are out of focus & pushed up against the camera. The rightside of her face and head are visible including her fluffy ear. Behind Ava out of focus people stand in the background.

Figured I should reintroduce myself as well. Hi! I go by root2iris or jade or xion, whichever you prefer :) I used to be League of Legends analyst and notably discovered a lot of tech for Gwen before she was reworked and had a lot of depth taken away as well as finding a lot of Neeko tech old&&new
