October 2026 Bat Field Season! 🦇🇯🇲 Travelling through Portland, Jamaica, we stopped along the coast to admire the sea. 🌊 Look at those waves and beautiful blue skies! Fieldwork also gives us time to appreciate Jamaica’s natural beauty. #RoostersWorldJA #BatResearch #Jamaica

When I need inspiration but can't be in the field, I scroll through photos shared in the BirdLife Jamaica WhatsApp group. They lift my spirits! This Jamaican Spindalis is endemic to Jamaica and helps disperse seeds. Thanks to Heidi Murphy for the photo! #RoostersWorldJA

🦋 From the research archives: In 2017, Catherine Murphy, Eric Garraway & I documented new records of Marpesia chiron in Jamaica. Small natural-history observations can reveal important clues about species distributions. Have you seen this butterfly in Jamaica? #Jamaica #Biodiversity

The fun part of exploring Windsor Great Cave: the flying insects! 😂 In the darkness of the cave, many insects are attracted to our headlamps and flashlights, a behaviour known as phototaxis. They can become so concentrated around the lights that you end up swallowing and probably breathing in, a few

Cane Toads (Rhinella marina) really know how to survive the dry season. During prolonged dry conditions, they reduce their activity and seek out cool, moist shelters where they can limit water loss. Some may remain sheltered for days or even weeks.

Look who I found on the UWI Mona campus! 🪲 Euchroma gigantea, the Giant Metallic Ceiba Borer, is a striking wood-boring beetle in the family Buprestidae. It is the only species in the genus Euchroma. Always something interesting to find when you take the time to look! 👀🌿

I sometimes wonder if people who illegally dump garbage realise the damage they are doing to the environment. There are some special places I struggle to share publicly because, after a while, they start looking like this. Check out this video and tell me—doesn’t this make you angry?

The Plain Pigeon (Patagioenas inornata) is one of Jamaica’s native and rarely seen pigeons. During the current bird shooting season, there have been reports of individuals being mistakenly shot because they were believed to be juvenile “Bald Pates” (White-crowned Pigeons)

A fungus that kills flies! 🍄🪰 This fly appears to have been infected by an entomopathogenic fungus, possibly Ophiocordyceps or a related fungus. These fungi infect insects, kill their hosts and then produce structures that release spores. Have you seen anything like this in Jamaica?

There’s always something interesting to find on Great Goat Island! 🦎 At first, I was focused on this huge male Jamaican Brown Anole. Then, out of nowhere, things took an unexpected turn—it became a lizard mating session! 😂 You never quite know what you’re going to observe in the field.
