#ReggaeSky Her piercing harmonies, echoes, and vocal ad-libs gave a spiritual atmosphere. Sly & Robbie fused programmed beats and digital drum effects with traditional bass, using the contrast between Mykal Rose’s gritty lead & Puma Jones’s sharp, rhythmic backing vocals as their signature sound.

Rooster Cogburn @roostercoghburn.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

#ReggaeSky During her time with The Sons of Negus, Puma Jones's vocals were completely overshadowed by the male singers in this collecive sessions. Upon joining Black Uhuru in '78, her formative months with the band were captured on their definitive '79 album, Showcase.

#ReggaeSky She moved to Jamaica in '77, cutting her teeth with Miriam Makeba and Sons of Negus before joining Black Uhuru in '79, where she stayed until getting sick in '87.
