I created some flower vases recently. This corner section of my desk has been serving as my playground for design. I made almost everything with a mix of clay, wood, and 3D printing. Interestingly, I’ve now found I want to bridge the gap between my tastes in art and design. #design #art #diycrafts

I think all of my personal work are WIPs or experiments. It’s fast to get an idea out and I can start seeing ways to improve through feedback or time passing. The downside is I put in “less effort”, so if it fails, I brush it off. I fear facing the reality of my skill limits in polished work.

I finally acquired some of Kunio Kato’s work. I got The Diary of Tortov Roddle and House of Small Cubes DVDs (also the book). His soft colors and wistful storytelling has inspired me for years. The little I know about him has only been thanks to the wonderful writings by @ani-obsessive.bsky.social

Not sure how much game dev experience you have, but as someone who’s had the same desire, I’d try to make it as small and simple as possible. Just to learn the pipeline and see how my idea looks and functions. Could even be substituting a tutorial with your own stop motion assets.

I think there will be a yearning for art. In a similar manner to how there’s a charm to 2D traditional and stop motion even in the age of 3D animation (not badmouthing 3D. I enjoy it too). But the more artists pull back the curtain and show the handmade process, the better.
