Hydrotherapy pool at Charlton Park runs at >5° more than regular pool, this actually equates to 2x as much gas to heat than average. All the more reason to support this project - if successful, that gas will be replaced by a mega-heat pump that will be largely powered by the school's own solar. ⬇️

Our co-chair Kate was present at the launch of the Local Power Plan earlier this week - she said:

“The Local Power Plan recognises the multiple interconnected impacts that community energy projects have, and the potential for community wealth building that they offer. The £1bn investment demonstrates a commitment to supporting and growing this model, with a vision that ‘by 2030, every community in the UK will have the opportunity to own a local energy project’.

“The plan builds on the knowledge, experience and success of community energy groups across the UK and the ‘working with’ not ‘doing to’ approach is welcomed.

“The intention to listen to what community groups are saying, and to act as a connector between various stakeholders, is positive.

“In particular the recognition of Local Authorities as key partners in the Local Power Plan, with targeted support, has the potential to make a big difference at a practical level.“

“The longer-term ambitions to explore and support a wider range of local energy business models, for example through the Local Energy Platform and Smart Community Energy, is exciting and I look forward to seeing this develop.”

It was nice to see our energy advice team's work credited, with a mention of our energy cafes in the government's Warm Homes Plan released this week. In 2024-5, our energy advisors saved households on average >£440 each in year 1, an estimated £968 over 3. More comment on the plan from us soon.

“The board direction has been not to try and compete with other investment options, but to focus on attracting people who are keen to invest in local community and to be part of a local just energy transition, while also supporting Selce’s energy advice work.”

“This approach is borne out by the applicants to the 2025 solar share offer, 87% of whom said that investment returns were “somewhat important” or “not so important” in their decision to invest.”

“Over 80% said that the benefits for local schools and community centres were either “extremely important” or “very important” in their decision to invest.”

the equivalent of more than 77 households to substantially reduce their bills.

the equivalent of 31 home visits, with the installation of up to 9 measures to save on households’ bills.

Thanks to your kindness and generosity, our Crowdfunder managed to raise £7764.66.

Our campaign has also shone a wider light on the challenges fuel poverty alleviation is facing right now - with fewer grant options available.

But the better news is that through this campaign, at least one more funder for our team to continue its work has come forward.

We are still not fully funded for the year ahead, but have enough to keep going for the moment, and the fight against fuel poverty in South East London lives on, for another day, another month and hopefully eventually another year through to 2027.

One more step to a cleaner, fairer future for EVERYONE, with no one left behind.
