I don’t think I’ve seen as many scooters on the sidewalks of a major city i a long time that I saw in Austin this week. And the young people using them were frequently a hazard on the sidewalks.

Interestingly when I was in Austin I couldn’t access this app without offering proof I was over 18. I chose not to use the app while in Texas.

With gas prices at this Amsterdam gas station working out to over $10 a gallon U.S., it explains the popularity of the bike trails in the city, but I was still surprised to see normal bumper to bumper rush hour traffic from my hotel room window every morning.

And as good as he was Jim Rice was right there with him. The gold dust twins. And the other outfielder was 23 year old Dwight Evans.

When you hear the owners crying poverty after the season is over and locking out the players, remember this. Baseball is awash in money. I have zero sympathy for the owners.

Don’t look now, but this completely improbable Red Sox team is just 2.5 behind the Yankees for the top AL wild card spot.

As Joe Morgan would have said, Tolle spun a beauty. The Sox needed it, breaking a five game losing streak.

I don’t envy the sports writers who have to explain what happened at the end of the top of the 7th in Toronto, but both teams forgot how many outs there were. The runner on third, trotted home without tagging .The inning ended and after much discussion, the Red Sox were awarded a run. 🤷

Moving up to 10th on the all-time Ks list, Max Scherzer 👏 With four strikeouts vs. Phillies, the 42-year-old surpasses Walter Johnson on MLB’s career strikeouts leaderboard.

Dodgers get soundly beat by Cubs in Skubul’s debut and the ESPN headline: Even in loss Skubal plenty good. The headline should have been: Cubs beat Skubal in first start since trade.

I expected the bubble to burst when the Red Sox came back from the break, but they improbably swept the Rays in a double header. This with their spring training lineup. I’m still having trouble believing in this team.

The Red Sox went an improbable 9-0 on their pre ASB road trip. Yet they are still a deeply flawed baseball team. What bugs me is they might think they can be buyers now and they should absolutely sell Sonny Grey, Aroldis Chapman and one or two of their utility players to the highest bidders.

Only 34 when he reached 300. Most now believe we will never see another 300 game winner. Today’s pitchers throw harder and break down frequently. I wonder what was different in that era. Even as recently as the 70s teams had 4-man rotations. I remember Luis Tiant throwing 150 pitches.

Sonny Gray has to be the most disrespected pitcher in MLB this season. Despite a 10-1 record with a 2.61 ERA on an extremely mediocre Red Sox team, he was overlooked for the All Star team

Got on a plane last summer and learned Rafael Devers had been traded while I was in the air. Got on a plane yesterday and Jaylen Brown was traded while I was in the air. Two blockbusters that made each team worse and got not enough in return.

I will grant you they are at least major league quality players, but there was a time when the Sox had several guys with Contreras’ numbers. You have to admit the Sox roster doesn’t scare anyone.

I wrote a piece using the Red Sox dismal season to show that even when you have good data and custom models, it doesn’t guarantee a good outcome. That’s because baseball is played by humans and Red Sox management seems to have forgotten that. www.fastforward.blog/what-the-red...

You continually post these stats about Ohtani’s pitching without the caveat that he missed the end of 2023, all of 2024 and about a third of 2025 due to injury. Yes, it’s impressive, but you are being misleading by not including that info.

Is it just the Red Sox or do pro baseball players seem to completely lack baseball IQ about the most basic fundamentals. It’s like all they are taught to do is hit the ball in the air and none of the rest of the game matters.

That’s the problem. There’s men under those caps. People like Bloom and Breslow forget that and that’s why they’ll never be successful running things. Put them in charge of the draft. I’m good with that, but keep them away from from managing people.

Just shows how capricious these moves were. I have a theory, Pete that Breslow wanted to fire some of the coaches and Cora wouldn’t go along so they fired him too. Then they asked Tek to take over and he stood by his mates and they dismissed him too. Otherwise none of this makes sense to me.

Red Sox 2 hit the Blue Jays tonight. Ranger Suarez went 8 strong giving up 1 hit and striking out 10. What if they were about to come out of their funk and all that drama was for nothing?

Alex Cora and almost his whole coaching staff were fired yesterday. I’m on record being frustrated with this season, but this move makes the Red Sox look like clowns. How can you replace all those people mid season? And if you’re pulling from the minors what does that do to player development?

Man were we wrong Chad. This team can’t score runs to save its life. I’ve been a fan of this team going back to the 70s and I don’t think I’ve ever been more pessimistic than I am about this one. This team is awful.

The 1970s Red Sox had Yaz, Jim Rice, Dwight Evans, Fred Lynn, Luis Tiant and Carlton Fisk. Add Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs in the 8Os , Mo Vaughn and Nomar and Pedro in the 1990s.
