According to the NASA Earth Observatory sea ice at the top of the planet continued to shrink and thin in 2024, consistent with an ongoing 46-year downward trend. CO2 emissions, on the other hand, continue to increase. Not good news for Santa, or for the rest of us.
A climate activist dressed in a Santa Claus costume sits by the road looking sad, with a placard that says "Home-less R.I.P North Pole" in reference to declining ice coverage due to global warming.

Interesting piece from @reutersinstitute.bsky.social. For news junkies - by trade or compulsion - X/Twitter is still better for breaking news. I can't see that changing unless @bsky.app shows "trending" news, preferably tailored by geography - reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/news/these-r...
Screenshot of a paragraph from an article about X (formerly Twitter) by Reuters Institute with the following text -

Quote
“Despite some of the decay that’s happened on the platform, it’s still the primary hub for immediacy in news today,” Conger says. “You see this during major news events like the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Other platforms are starting to take that market share, but today it still is the dominant hub for that kind of conversation.”
End quote.

It's curious that a BBC piece titled - "Who are Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, HTS, the rebels seizing control of #Aleppo?" - fails to mention that the Al Qa’ida franchise is a proscribed terrorist group in the UK. As is the use of "rebels" to describe them. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Evading Standards? Haha, I'll have you know that a (slightly manky) copy of that esteemed organ is one of my more cherished possessions ;-)

British Museum Reading Room After covering events at the museum for many years I finally got a look at the famous reading room, which reopened in July '24. It really is magnificent, and if it wasn't for the museum's oily sponsorship I'd recommend you take a look.
