Romain Guy @romainguy.dev · 30/08/2026I honestly wouldn't mind if most papers I read were longer but easier to understand. Too many either skip steps or fail to mention the challenges of an actual implementation. 051

I discovered the Filthy Rich Client book by @romainguy.dev and @chethaase.com, examples required NetBeans, dead repos. Back then, I started migrating it to @gradle.com, and modernized the examples to be runnable again. I finalized my quest this summer. 231

Romain Guy @romainguy.dev · 08/08/2026The overhead of companion objects is worse than it seems when you drop down to the arm assembly. When accessing non constants, having to access the insurance means doing an initialization check at each call site. 100

Romain Guy @romainguy.dev · 06/08/2026I really miss apps that would do ridiculous things in their UI, like Disco. If you've never used this ~2007 CD burning app, it would show a real-time smoke simulation coming out of the window when you were in the process of burning a CD. It was interactive too! www.youtube.com/shorts/zklSr...youtube.comDisco.app quite literally ... burns ... CDs and DVDsYouTube video by Chris Messina 2274
Romain Guy @romainguy.dev · 05/08/2026The originals use low compression so hopefully a slight downsample will be enough. 010

Romain Guy @romainguy.dev · 10/07/2026It looks great and extremely useful. I'm however feel like you're introducing a lot of new terms that don't seem necessary (lens, optic, etc.) and can actually be confusing to folks who are already familiar with graphics pipelines. 120
