I do not understand the nostalgia for the era of sedans. A sedan with a trunk is a big waste of space -- all the space above the trunk up to the height of the roof is lost. Make the identical car a hatchback, and you've doubled your cargo space, and made loading the car easier.

Politically, yes, those are good ideas. Buy will they actually make people view the economy as doing well? Prices can’t actually go down—deflation would be horrible. If wages rise too fast it can cause some inflationary shock, which might backfire…

No I’m saying that media fracture leading to people losing grasp of an objective truth doesn’t require people to scroll 20 hours a day. But my overall take on this fight is that it’s extremely complex and both sides are a little right and it’s multi-factored and defies easy explanation.

I’m not sure the “it’s the phones” explanation would predict that increased usage would correlate with pessimism. It’s about where people’s information is coming from (and not coming from), not about how much time a person spends reading it.
