Mari Salmon fantastic. Flemming is a bruiser type CF and Marli held his own, at 17 which we can’t forget. Calm, measured and progressive with the ball. A scarcity of supreme CB talent has existed in Hale End over many years. Marli, however, is the real deal. Absolute class.

0111

The fact nobody is really surprised with what they saw with Max Dowman tonight is a testament to the level he has produced already for the first team. Normalising this standard at 16 years of age is crazy. Elite elite talent.

Job done and into the next round Some great individual performances and some not so good individual performances. Getting past PL opposition whilst making 9 changes, with our big stars rested for the weekend is always a big positive though!

✍️ Fans were left surprised by Arteta saying how Kai Havertz's role can change depending on whether the goalkeeper is right- or left-footed. This is how it can change! ⬇️ 🔗 rohanjivanafc.substack.com/p/here-is-wh...

Alongside Odegaard, Havertz had an underrated game. His proclivity to abandon the last line gave us a way to decouple the Sunderland press in open play. As Arteta says, Kai’s intelligence allows him to be 5 seconds ahead of the game. Read more ⬇️ 🔗 rohanjivanafc.substack.com/p/here-is-wh...

Bruno G insane cameo That’s a world class midfielder who hasn’t started a game for us yet this season. Our midfield is something else

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Honestly that was a proper performance. So so happy with it. There were always going to be spells of brutality. Sunderland provoke that. You just have to try and mitigate those turbulent periods as much as possible and we did. Thoroughly deserved the win. Buzzing man

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Massive massive win. Cannot stress that enough. Sunderland away is a slog, very very difficult because of how direct they’re in every single situation. Long balls, long throws, indirect set pieces into the mixer, etc and we’ve got away with three points. Champions elect.

✍️ Martin Odegaard is performing at an incredible level. I've always been a huge fan. But I didn't expect him to be hitting this level. Check out my Substack to hear my take on what’s driving this form. Enjoy ⬇️ rohanjivanafc.substack.com/p/explaining...

Martin Odegaard is in complete flow state Nobody comes close to MOTM tonight. Skipper 🫡

Ezri Konsa Absolutely class. Kept saying ‘bring me Ezri Konsa’ all summer. The perfect Saliba contingency. Calm, measured and composed.

Odegaard goal is symbolic of our final third identity. And it revolves around one thing: Playing against the oppositions momentum. I discussed this in my post match Chelsea piece (link below) and this has ALWAYS been our intention! It’s nothing new! 🔗 rohanjivanafc.substack.com/p/how-arsena...

A clear final third identity

Fantastic performance that. Really really chuffed with it. Complete domination, conceded virtually nothing and found regular solutions against a difficult low block. Left so many goals on the pitch and I’m more than happy for that to be my only critique. Simply outstanding!

I like your writing Rohan, and I agree. We look more like the team we were when the same players we have on the pitch now were on the pitch then. Funny that.

Great loan for Ethan Dortmund stylistically makes a lot of sense (judging from the game at the Emirates). Nominal 3-4-3 but with heavy emphasis on playing ‘through pressure.’ Wingers constantly inside, tasked with receiving in crowd scenes, combining, creating, shooting etc.

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

Early morning thoughts Huge shoutout to Cristhian Mosquera in the lead up to the goal. That pass to find Eze ignites the play. Everything that follows is classic Arsenal regarding attacking patterns. But the bravery from Mosquera to play the initial pass is what’s salient.

Early morning thoughts Declan Rice’s passing when facing play, with the entire game in front of him, situated on the right hand side, has always gone under the radar. He absolutely loves that pass into the right half space, as you saw in the build up to Odegaard’s goal.

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

Initial thoughts on Tzolis are that I feel he will have longevity in the game because he’s not banking on outstanding, pure physical attributes to impact proceedings. Everything is centred around simple, high level decision making, and that seriously bodes well.

✍️Spent this morning on my walk writing some rough notes on why I've been banging on the Ezri Konsa drum. For me, it has always made sense to go down this avenue to manage William Saliba, instead of signing a pure right-back. rohanjivanafc.substack.com/p/why-arteta...

Odegaard last season had three early injury setbacks, all came in games where he was playing well. He had multiple valuable contributions last season. Contributions that made the difference in us winning the league.

160

David Raya the best all rounder in Premier League history. I’m ready for this conversation. Him and Allison. The top two.

1171

Kai Havertz. CF Beast of a player up top. Will keep saying it. Mikel knows it. The club knows it. And I will constantly fight against the unfair slander on his name, especially on the back off Citeh (A) last season. Cognitive bias drives it. Stay fit and we are making movies.

1170

Myles Lewis Skelly insane performance. On the ball personality. He’s been playing those defence splitting passes on a regular. Superb

0221

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Incredible performance. A Premier League champions display. Sharp as a razor and players arriving with solid minutes under their belt in preparation for next week. Five trophies now for Mikel. My gaffer ❤️

060

I know we are all deep into transfer news. But I for one have managed to rewatch the Como game and have lots of thoughts! Firstly, I loved their ideas to play through us in deep build up. Equally, I thought we handled these challenges brilliantly. Great pressing display.

120

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Thought Merino, aka The Glue, looked in top nick against Como I’m personally very open to the idea of Merino receiving LCM minutes than most, in game states where control is asserted. Certainly not ‘predominantly’ as we have better options from the get-go. But he can be extremely useful here...

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 10/08/2026

Really want to stress that our players so far are currently loaded up differently. Betis and Dortmund both are ahead of us in pre season. These things matter. Fitness matters, which is a considerable caveat. The gaffer said everybody else, outside of the injured lads, will be back now...

110

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 10/08/2026

Early morning thoughts Rewatched the Dortmund game last night and have thoughts Firstly, whilst his actual play has been inconsistent, I feel really encouraged by Benjamin White’s intensity. The repeatability in his sprints, both forward and in running back to goal has stood out in all games.

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 09/08/2026

Unfortunately for Tzolis, he has become the victim of the club so far not acquiring a big forward signing. So prior today, in reference to Betis, he naturally became the whipping boy whenever he’s not blitzing past a man 1v1...

Welcome to The Arsenal, Bruno Guimarães 🔴 In my latest piece, I delve into his strengths, weaknesses, tactical fit, preservation, and perhaps Declan Rice's subtle role adjustment. Enjoy!!! rohanjivanafc.substack.com/p/bruno-guim...

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

Nothing much to report other than it looked like a team starting out their pre season and a team approaching the end of their pre season. And….thats exactly the case. No need to panic!!!

0100

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

In terms of the high press (going by the Bruno G footage I’ve seen): I suspect Bruno G takes up the higher role relative to Rice I question whether Bruno G has the defensive acumen and ability to play deepest in these scenarios.

230

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

Rice and Bruno G will be Arteta’s preferred pivot, one would think. World class. Yin and Yang. But don’t sleep on Myles or Zubi, especially the latter as the former is already heavily loved. Zubi is top draw. Certainly our 2nd best midfielder OOP

260

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

Early morning thoughts Ben White looks to have recovered well from his injury. His intensity was top on Saturday, handful of powerful forward runs made + a top regain for Jesus’ goal. Was a shame when he picked up that injury vs West Ham, was building momentum at the time.

080

Rohan Jivan @rohanjivan.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

Tzolis was better on rewatch. Really secure back to goal under pressure, though tougher tests to come on this front. Interested to see how he does against PL defenders. Worked the ball well in tight spaces with Kai and Calafiori. Top shift defensively too.
