Yesterday I was thinking about how quick white liberals were to engage with the horrors of ICE detention & how profoundly uninterested they still are in hearing how much of that has existed in the US for ages, and this is largely why. The former does not make them confront their own role in it.

There are so many things we were told to get for our autistic kid that ended up just being “thing that helps humans.” Weighted blankets are the shit. People love fidgets. And no one wants to look like a dumbass. Tell people how to do the thing & they’re way more likely to do the thing!

when an autistic kid is going to do something unfamiliar, one way to help is by making a “social story”: a first-person, step-by-step walkthrough of roughly what will happen so it’s less of a series of surprises. “We will get to the aquarium & wait outside until our tickets are ready,” etc. 1/2

You can buy individual pieces in any color either from the official Lego site (easier, more expensive) or places like BrickLink (cheaper, more time consuming) or in bulk by color on eBay (it's eBay). The part details/numbers are in the instructions (which are free to anyone on the Lego site, btw!)

no doubt. luckily my kid's an autistic teenager in largely safe spaces so at this point they have no problem standing up in the middle of a conversation, saying "nope!", and going to do something else, but i do recognize that this is somewhat of a limited window for them.

I watched starting from S1 on the Taskmaster Roku app, so that’s what I can speak to, and S1-13 are good, I think. Starting in S14, I believe, some episodes are missing captions entirely & when they’re there they’re auto-generated, as you say. The ones after the jump on Hulu now seem to be fine.

Fun fact: there’s a Taskmaster app on Roku that carries every episode of every season from every country (e.g. Finland, who knew?). It’s a subscription service but if you ever get sick or need to mega-binge, keep it in mind. NOTE: captions on the UK eps go to shit around S14, and that sucks.
