Very glad to have been wrong about my concerns on this one.

It's tolerable at this point, but it should have been *so* much better. Imagine a Star Trek preschool show written with the quality of Bluey? Also, while I try not to lean on "Gene would have hated it" in general, he specifically objected to almost precisely this repeatedly in development of TAS.

Yeah, they only did that for the first ten. The "Holodeck Rescues" episodes have been more tolerable. I think this is the 14th of those.

Who would've thought when Iron Man came out back in 2008 that 18 years later we would have had not one but two TV series spin-offs about the AI voice in Tony's helmet. #visionquest

No other series in any case. I really would've thought this would have a 4K release. (The movies, including Section 31, have 4K releases.)

I'd like to also watch Star Trek: 30 Years and Beyond for its 30th anniversary, though that technically aired in October, and I may not have time to finish it today anyway. After that... Maybe a break from Star Trek for a while? At least until Strange New Worlds comes out Thursday.

Also included: * TOS episode trailers (with original "Captain's Logs") * Star Trek Logs Instagram videos * The DS9 season 8 writer's room from the What We Left Behind documentary. * Some fan films: New Voyages/Phase II, Continues, and Of Gods and Men. * The series finale of Webster.

Picard season 2 lined up with the dates the events were meant to happen in real life. Section 31 dropped at just the right time to slot into my early-24th century rewatch. And thanks to arbitrarily sticking Scouts at almost the end today's episode lined up properly.

It included all official productions, including Short Treks and "Klingon Fable: The Legend of Gorath". I even included very Short Treks and Scouts with some *very* arbitrary placements. www.startrek.com/watch_video/...

Starting on First Contact Day 2024 (4/5/24) I began rewatching all of Star Trek in chronological in-universe order, including repeats for (significant) flashbacks and time travel, starting with "All Our Yesterdays" (TOS). After 2.5 years, #StarTrekDay I finished with "Calypso" (SHO).
Watch time: 898:30:00
Rewatch days: 887.00
Total productions: 1376

With the slight caveat that I've never seen the theatrical cut of Khan in theaters, though I've seen the director's cut in theaters twice. I've seen both the theatrical cut and Director's Edition of The Motion Picture in theaters.

Saw my first Star Trek movie in theaters back in 1989, and as of today I've finally seen all of the theatrically-released Trek films in theaters!

I don't envy @ryannorth.ca for shelling out $100 CAN and then having to find some way to get Captain Pike's couch from #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds in his house, unless by "envy" you mean "resentful awareness [...] joined with a desire to possess the same advantage," in which case I guess I do.

I hope you're right, but when it opened $15m on a $70m budget, it's at least arguably bombing. Hopefully, much like the Roadrunner, it'll have powerful legs. In any case, I'll defer to @scottmendelson.bsky.social, who is far more knowledgeable about such things. bsky.app/profile/scot...

Coyote vs. Acme was a great, heartfelt movie, but it might not even make the $50m it cost Ketchup Entertainment to save the film. Opening weekend gross was $15m. Show Warner Bros. that they were wrong to try to turn this into a tax write-off. It doesn't deserve to be a bomb.

Setting aside that bringing in writers who don't already know science fiction and Star Trek is how we ended up with talent like Michael Piller, which writers do you have in mind? To my recollection, all of the recent showrunners were existing fans. They even brought in some of the novelists to write

Does it bug anyone else that when people gripe about Alex Kurtzman's influence on Star Trek the things they cite most often are from the brief period *before* Kurtzman was showrunner of Discovery? Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts presumably made the decisions about the Klingons and such.

Poster for Lower Decks season 5 in the style of one of the posters for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. It shows a couch floating in space with seatbelts locked in. It says "Why Are They Putting Seatbelts In Homes This Fall?" The Cerritos is flying off into the background.

Kayshon, when he became a puppet #StarTrek
From Star Trek: Lower Decks. Kayshon has been turned into a puppet. He is in a sickbay bed. There is a piece of paper taped to the bed that says "I AM NOT A DOLL. DO *NOT* PLAY WITH ME."

Okay, I know there have arguably been too many crossovers already, and Star Trek has gotten a little too gimmicky lately, but if @idwpublishing.com doesn't make a crossover that will involve the Enterprise fighting Mechagodzilla than what are we even doing #GodzillaVsStarTrek #Godzilla #StarTrek

I'm cautiously looking forward to this, but I think I'd be looking forward to it more if it wasn't arguably the fifth gimmick/homage episode in a row, at least depending on how broadly one defines a "gimmick." (Dinosaurs, ghost story, Hangover-ish comedy, Casablanca-ish B&W film noir, puppets.)

In #StarTrekDiscovery "Face the Strange" in the time right after Burnham becomes captain, they need a 32nd century holodeck. The only one one the ship was just installed in Burnham's quarters, apparently shortly after her promotion. Rank has its privileges?

Look, all I want is a Star Trek series that makes me care about its characters in 2 episodes as much as I do about the TNG cast after 178 episodes and 40 years of nostalgia and that has as many classics in one 10-episode season as TNG had in its first 70 episodes combined. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK???

Master and Commander came out late during the original run of TOS. It's possible it was an influence in later iterations like TNG, but there's also a good chance you're thinking of C.S. Forester's Hornblower novels.
