rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 20/09/2026This week in #EliteDangerous even I'm getting excited by ship teasers these days, it's just brilliant. I was stargazing this week, and there was that weird feeling that I can just GO THERE. Like, the stars. Any of them. I mean I've always known this but there was something magical about feeling it. 3193
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 06/08/2026This week in #EliteDangerous ... Do ya dig it? Get your motor running, head out on the highway. 3140
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 04/08/2026One can only assume massive steampunk JCBs. 020
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Can you imagine seeing this all those years ago and thinking Y'know what this Road needs is a great big hole under it. 260
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Well its down to aerodynamics on this one. Even with perfect axial rotation along the direction of motion your basic baguette javelin is going to create a lot of turbulence. So my money is on a frisbee style naan, with a high rpm to keep it steady it should catch the breeze and go the distance. 120
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 10/07/2026I'm not going to ask you to stop the science! 240
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 10/07/2026I'm glad you found a home on GeForce Now and can be part of the Live Galaxy. I've been playing Elite for decades and big additions like Trailblazers and Operations are really at the heart of providing new options for gameplay, new ways to play and new ways to play together. 062
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 09/07/2026This week in #EliteDangerous ... Pride, to be honest. It's been a funny old week but I have a team that doesn't stop. Pride and biscuits. 5180
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 04/07/2026This week in #EliteDangerous has seen it all happening! An ambitious release with a lot going on and just the latest in a series of iterative and incremental improvements. Over the past few years delivering new features and revisiting existing mechanics, and a stepping stone to the future. O7 3171
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 26/06/2026This week in #EliteDangerous Either you are an explorer, and we've got a cheeky little vessel for you, or you are kicking ass for Frontline and there more options than ever before. And yes, frontine will send a runner to pick you up from the Black too. Just park up and get into the action. O7 6273
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 22/06/2026I drive this route most weeks. Thass a big ole hole. 020
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 22/06/2026This week in #EliteDangerous A new light dawns on the galaxy. The surface is calling. 2193
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 19/06/2026What part of lithobraking could *possibly* lead you to think I've been compulsively downed by gravity flying the newfound crowned of the ground, the new Elite Dangermouse Nomad? Yas. This is 100% what I've been doing. The mountains come at you like a shark with knees. I need more flight training. 230
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 18/06/2026This week in #EliteDangerous ... I have mostly been lithobraking. Perhaps my flight needs more assistance than I'm willing to admit! Are y'all excited? Watcha flying these days? 562
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 15/06/2026That's not my bag, I deal with tools, talent, and technology - programming adjacent problems and problems that programmers have. Maybe there is a buy-a-million-get-one-free offer? Colonise your name in stars and I'll personally buy you a pint, that's about the best I can manage. 140
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 15/06/2026She sits with me whenever she can. Even just to sleep nearby. She is my fuzzy little co-pilot. 130
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 12/06/2026Econet opens up some options! Plugging the tube into a Raspberry Pi has given me some extra juice and made mode2 a viable option but I'm avoiding networking for now. I didn't consider until now that one pi could feed several beebs. 040
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 12/06/2026Nicely done commander! Are you running two player centric synced simulations or one set of transforms drawn from two cameras? In dangerous we do clever things as ships get far away, what are you simulating if the two ships diverge? 110
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 12/06/2026Show don't tell. You won't have to wait long. But it's little dumb details that still spark my brain even after all this time. Even cockpit details or the seatbelt ding of the Lynx boosting. 070
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 12/06/2026This week in #elitedangerous I still get stupid excited about small details. And I hope I never lose this. 2241
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 06/06/2026Who would have thought that Leto, famous for costume choices, would wear *that* Growing up when and where I did, I've always loved Cinema. And I did really enjoy the MOTU movie. It hit the spot, ticked the boxes, a well received blend of old and new that delivered exactly what it promised. 120

rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 30/05/2026Yeah, I'll make it along if I can. I pretty much pushed the BBC micro tube bus to its limits, but I've got a few more thing to try before running it on street legal hardware. 110

rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 29/05/2026This week in #EliteDangerous. For those who know me, this is what it's all about. I get excited each release. rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 20/05/2026OK I don't often post Carrie, who is not here for content. But also I got home a while ago and she just wants to prevent laptop access. 250
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 10/05/2026This weekend in the code mines, slipped and wrote some GPU lodding with OpenGL 4.6 I sat down to fix a 6502 pixel error, but ended up knee deep in RTX shaders. Now I have a kinematic hierarchy with mesh shaders so I've got that going for me which is nice. I like writing code by hand. 120

rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 24/04/2026This week in #elitedangerous ... The Lynx Liner! I joined FDev 5 or 6 years ago becoming a custodian of the massive space adventure sandbox I loved. It's been hard work, I'm proud of my team and the Lynx has become a symbol of the shared journey we have been on together as a team and community. o7 5170
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Noo not RT on 6502! I'm crazy but I'm not crazy! But maybe mad hacks with the tube Co Pro and trying a tile based blob abomination to draw filled polys fast enough. 6502 is wild west. But in testing the idea I accidentally wrote a compute raytracer for my laptop. 000
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Well... I have a 6502ish renderer that can manage that, if you'll allow the tube coprocessor? With a potential blob optimisation if you don't mind triangles with more or less than three sides. The modern renderer tears through 16K verts. I think I can go faster with vulkan - this is handmade opengl. 000
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Mistakes were made. The reference deferred renderer is 200μs - the raytracing is ten times slower! Looks like there is an opportunity to optimise after all! 000
rogerbennett.bsky.social @rogerbennett.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Modern GPUs are faster than you think. I've now written a tumbling cobra at every tech level from 6502 assembly to compute raytracing. Holy smokes when did hardware get so good? 200μs render is... five thousand frames per second? Yeah no. I'm thinking I need more evil plans and stuff. Any ideas? 110
