#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched #filmsky #ghibli Whisper of the Heart (1995), Perfect Days (2023), Where Is The Friend’s House (1987), Peter Hujar’s Day (2025). (If all movie weeks were like the last couple of them, that would be alright.)

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Where Is the Friend's House? (1987), Peter Hujar’s Day (2025), Kokuho (2025), Leviticus (2026). Have to rewatch the Ira Sachs’s Peter Hujar film every few months; the new Kiarostami was also absolutely great. Conclusion is all movies should be around 80 minutes.

I mean—that reflection of Whishaw in the dust cover of the record player.
Still from Ira Sachs’s film Peter Hujar’s Day, showing Rebecca Hall playing Linda Rozenkrantz sitting at a dinner table while listening to Ben Whishaw playing Hujar, who’s offscreen.

Morning rewatch of Peter Hujar’s Day before cinemas stop screening it. I loved it from the get go and it’s still growing on me. In a way, a very sleek and contemporary Ozu—the gradual sadness of it. Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall really play the fuck out of those parts. letterboxd.com/barthesian/f...

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Leviticus (2026), The Wind Rises (2013), Murder on the Orient Express (2017), Akira (1988). Some rewatches for comfort, some quite nice new things. Wish Leviticus had been longer, with more time for subtle development—cause the premise itself worked brilliantly.

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Burn After Reading (2008), Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (2026), Bridesmaids (2011), Nimona (2023). Stayed within the current century for once. And we’re staying mostly with warm colors for the posters.

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Naissance des pieuvres (2007), Taman-taman/Park (2026), Blue Heron (2025), Bouchra (2025). Trying to find a red thread here. Maybe the non-cerebral use of metafiction? And/or queer women? Parents and children?

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched There Will Be Blood (2007), Hair, Paper, Water... (2025), Goodbye, Dragon Inn (2003), Backrooms (2026) One new one since last week—and damn, that was a good one.

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Hair, Paper, Water... (2025), Goodbye, Dragon Inn (2003), Backrooms (2026), The Drama (2026). Few films in May, but yesterday’s “Hair, Paper, Water...” was incredible at least, and will hopefully get a bigger release: sensitive, fleeting, tactile documentation.

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe (1980), Toute une nuit (1982), Mystery Train (1989), Ghost Elephants (2025). An unplanned 80s week with Herzog, Jarmusch and Akerman—not bad. The Akerman contains a dance scene on par with Wong Kar-wai’s Happy Together (1997).

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Josef Albers: To Open Eyes (1969), Coffee and Cigarettes (2003), Pickpocket (1959), Quatre nuits d’un rêveur (1971). (Continuing the Bresson streak from L’Argent last week, picking up something from the Jim Jarmusch retrospective at the local cinema.)

Nice! A theater here in Amsterdam was screening it as part of a little Jean-Louis Trintignant-retrospective—glad this was part of it!

Hadn't seen any of them yet – but it was very different from what I (somehow) was expecting! So now quite keen to see the other two
