["Evil Dead Burn" Review - ★★★] I'm calling a moratorium on producing any more Evil Dead movies until someone definitively decides what the fucking rules are for deadite possession and transmission because this shit's gotten out of control. Drawing the line at dogs and dentures. #Movies […]

["Backrooms" Review - ★★★½] When I suggested this movie, the person I watched it with asked "is that the pirate movie?" and I was like no it's about people who get trapped in a creepy liminal space between realities, how the fuck is it gonna be about a pirate? Yeah, turns out... #Movies […]

["On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century" Review - ★★★★] I liked this book, but I think I liked the idea of this book more than the book itself. www.goodreads.com/review/show/87529…

What a sad way to dishonor the legacy of Gerry Conway, the creator of the Punisher who died less than a month ago, and who famously said he was disgusted by law enforcement's embrace of the character. Even the Daredevil show (not produced by Bernthal) got […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Punisher: One Last Kill is a Republican fever dream. A home invasion where Frank Castle is given hours of lead time before it happens but he hallucinates nonsense until it sneaks up on him just so he can deal with it like any 2nd Amendment Warrior would have. Comic Book Frank would have set up a […]

Can't help but notice what kind of tattoos, out of the hundreds to choose from, are conspicuously absent from the huge guy in the coffee shop and the guy who stole the homeless marine's hat., despite them both being very visibly tattooed and shirtless.

Bernthal is executive producer on this special, his condition to Disney for returning was that he'd have more creative control - he's even listed as a writer on OLK. Once you realize this special was specifically made for the Punisher fans who would vote for Trump a fourth time, it all clicks.

I've looked the other way on Bernthal's portrayal of Castle as a grunting savage moron. Certainly not my preferred version of the tactical cool-headed Punisher, but that's fine, different portrayals and whatnot. But if you think Punisher should be a law […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Bernthal: Frank doesn't belong to me. It doesn't belong to Rei. Frank belongs to the
fans, belongs to the members of the military, members of law enforcement, people
who Frank just exists in their hearts. I do look at it as a responsibility, and I'm
honestly astounded that they let us do what we did.

Comic Punisher would never wear an American flag patch. Know how I know? Because when Steve Rogers dies in Civil War, he briefly picks up the shield reluctantly, and then decided he's too much of a piece of shit to represent the country and asks Bucky to do it.

Frank Castle with an American Flag arm patch intentionally well-framed in the shot

Punisher: One Last Kill is not a special about The Punisher, the comic book character. It's about the fan version of the character, specifically the fans who have thin blue line decals next to his logo on their F-150s. The entire plot is a home invasion by poor people complicated by Frank […]

There's an epidemic of professional burrito assemblers who seemingly have never eaten a burrito. Gang, if you don't mix the stuff then it means a bite of nothing but unflavored rice, a bite of ten thousand beans, etc. Nobody enjoys this.

Effectively every subject area has a personal tutor for just you, who can answer only the questions you need answered and skip all the stuff you don't. Anything that, in a book written for a mass audience, you'd sort of gloss over because you already know it, doesn't even enter the frame.

It's a different learning style. You read a book and it starts with foundations, then builds on them, then builds on those, etc. You fan out the topics for coverage. But now you can just directly ask about the thing you want to understand, and if you're missing foundational principles say […]

Reading feels pointless lately. I used to be a voracious reader, but lately spending the time to digest a technical book seems like waste if I can just have AI explain to me the exact thing I want to know (or just do it for me). Not to mention most new tech books are clearly written by AI anyway.
