I'm genuinely so close to dropping Dhalsim as main too. Not because I dislike playing him, but just because the way people play against him is fucking miserable, and his MU chart is fucking atrocious. I played Ingrid quite a bit yesterday and the way people played was significantly less stressful.

Played like 2 ranked games of SF6 and I think I'm done for the day. lmao I did play some of the other modes for Drive Tickets, and that was fine, but holy shit ranked players are mouthbreathers. Such great ranked hits as No Blocking Terry and Fullscreen Akuma.

Give me 3 wands and watch me figure out which ones don't haste enemies. Give me a potion and let me experiment on enemies with it to see if later ones are safe to drink. Just give me the thrill and risk of discovery when I pick up something, and the payoff of risking it to have information later.

Either way, Roguelikes should definitely take more inspiration from that one mechanic explicitly, and be less shy to limit the pools for consistency's sake. Playing a roguelike and already knowing basically what your progress is going to look like from the get-go can be pretty tedious TBH.

For all of the shit Borderlands rightfully deserves as a series, I think everyone who's played it is always genuinely excited to randomly generate some modular guns and see which ones are Kinda Cool Actually. A Rogue inspired game with modular, random items would go SO hard (If it exists tell me. 👀)

and to me it feels kinda crazy because in a modern, more complicated era of games, you'd hope that the thrill of picking up a random item and wondering "What does it do?" only to keep that meta info for later could be drastically expanded. Why stop at the staff colour to determine what it does?

Modern roguelikes miss this a LOT in order to make runs feel more consistent. Even some of my favourites that clearly took inspiration directly from Rogue miss this! It's all cool and good finding a staff and wondering what it does, but if that staff colour has limited options, meta info spoils it.

Often you'll see limited or pseudo random items in this way, and it's not the same. One of my earlier gaming memories was playing a game (IDK which) where staff colours were random. Picking up a staff on floor 1 of a new run told you NOTHING about it, but it was a risk you could take and that rocks!

NGL I think the discovery of what shit actually does on a run-to-run basis is a majorly lacking feature in a lot of modern roguelikes. A lot of them flirt with it, but really don't like the idea of unidentified items being truly random for some reason.

Only thing I can genuinely imagine is bi men are just more likely to be top/switch than gay men? and if you are a top bi guy the expectation of bottoming might be a deal breaker?
