New research from Cameroon suggests that "remote” rainforest areas aren’t safe refuges from hunting 🌴🌎 Hunters reach deeper than expected, meaning conservation plans must factor in human access, not just habitat 💭 🔗 doi.org/10.1111/1365...

New paper! Determinants of terrestrial and limnic species richness in Germany: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... Some first evidence for #hotspot patterns of certain taxonomic groups, but also clearly a lot to do: spatial #samplingbias doesn't go unnoticed, even in birds. Nice collab.

Notably, over 40% of primate encounters were polyspecific groups with up to five species. Interestingly, primate encounter rates and assemblages in this unprotected landscape were similar to observations in protected areas within the same ecoregion.

Exactement. These associations between primate species are often said to be an antipredation strategy: dilution of predation pressure and "more capacities" to detect predators (including humans)

We showed how hunting patterns change dynamically with respect to human and landscape‐related features. We also demonstrated complex hunting patterns along the gradient of human influence, therefore questioning the use of proxies such as the distance to the village to account for hunting pressure.
