When I was first referred to a specialist in 2000 for what would be CFS/ME, they ran all the tests they could think of. The response was "What ever is wrong with you doesn't appear to be trying to kill you. If you take care of yourself you'll likely live another 40 years." Not very satisfying.😒

The biggest issue with income inequality is the top 0.1% holders of wealth have the means to fix it but 0.00000% interest in doing so. Even less interest than fixing climate and environment issues. Extreme wealth is just hoarding with cash instead of newspapers and old pizza boxes.

From my lay-person understanding of that technical description of the qualities of the latest variant, it sounds like the ACE2 binding might be more effective and that could make it more like the late 2020 version where it could cause more lung infections again? 🤔🤨 Or did I misthink?😒

It really demonstrates that for average humans thinking about diseases, there's imminently deadly and there's sniffles, with nothing in between. As soon as covid stopped being deadly, people just stopped caring about the likely outcome. 😒🙄

Your last sentence sums up all the issues, they tend to have people to help them get elected but tend to be light on gathering expertise to generate policies. Thankfully we fare a bit better in Canada, but the "feel good" issues like human survival still tend to lag behind economic survival. 😒🤨

An additional thought is that politicians try to appeal to a majority of a general population, and that population is mostly deeply invested in self interest and selfish pursuits because humans are not all nice people, so to win in politics is to appeal to narrow self interest of voters.🥺

The big problem with politicians is they don't have a wide view of issues, they silo everything into policies and then assign them to other people to fix. People within disciplines are bad at siloing knowledge, but politicians don't even have the interior silo knowledge. Scientists don't do politics

Two things that humans seem to have a hard time seeing as a real risk, anything more than a month away and anything coming at them at a walking pace, or slower. On the other worrisome flip side, it also informs researchers weaponizing diseases to create a mass disabling event.

Japan seems to be ahead of the curve on this, I've paid for a one month archive ticket for a live stream of 8-10 concerts from Japan in the past 4 years. Multicamera 4K, well produced streams with excellent audio quality. Typically ~6000 yen for a one month archive of the live stream.

If I had to go into an office 40 hours a week with CFS/ME I'd have been on disability since mid-2000, rather than just retiring from technology consulting at the start of the past month. In the past few years it's taken a 12 hour day to squeeze out 3-4 hours of output, but hey, billable time.
