With Metallica opening their run at the Sphere tonight I couldn’t help but think how does a band go from where they started to a place like this? Pretty wild

Big question from The Crossroads Guitar Festival this weekend? Clapton is in his 80s, Billy Gibbons in his 70s, Buddy Guy is in his 90s. Who’s gonna carry this thing forward? Somebody has to!! It’s just too damn good and it has become an amazing tradition. My pic is the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

I like how today’s Crossroads Guitar Festival exact minute-by-minute order of the artists remains a surprise to keep the collaborations spontaneous.

Sirius XM is launching a Talking Heads station. All four members are going to be there to do a live studio Q&A in New York City on September 28th. Just play 5 or 6 songs. Put an end to all these years of people begging them to play again!

How did Metallica get 17 million people to buy what was essentially a doom metal album? Interesting question from this Metallica book, Metallica: Album by Album, where author Martin Popoff asks industry insiders to discuss Metallica albums. I never really thought about the Black Album that way.

Frank Beard wasn’t one of rock ’n’ roll’s most amazing drummers. But here’s something he does have on almost everyone, he ranks among the longest tenured drummers with a single band, and he sat behind the kit for the longest running unchanged lineup in rock ’n’ roll history🤘

Everything sounds great about this new Rush documentary. The focus is on Neil, Geddy and Alex contributed and they’re bring in 3 drummers Stewart Copeland, Chad Smith and Danny Careyto jam and discuss Neil. One challenge is- it’s running Sept 23 on the Canadian Broadcast Corporation channel only.

More than any other band that I post about, the Red Hot Chili Peppers get the most hate. I’ve been reviewing rock ‘n’ roll books and docs for 4 years and it’s not even close. They just put out a new doc and people just flame this band when I talk about them. I’m not the biggest fan, but why?

Just did a podcast episode focusing on must see and read Grateful Dead books and docs. The doc Long Strange Trip still feels like the gold standard. Four hours, not a lot of gloss. They don’t dodge Jerry’s relationship with fame or the cost of it all. This is where I would start.

000

Rock Talk Studio @rocktalkstudio.bsky.social · 03/02/2026

Looks like the new Red Hot Chili Peppers doc coming out March 20th is not a look at the bands career, but only focusing on the band’s early years and the death of original guitarist Hillel Slovak. And to me, that’s just fine.
