A Swiffer duster is being used to dust the starboard side forward chine of the Space Shuttle Engineering Mockup’s starboard side double delta wing. We are using our hand, because the typically attachment would not allow us to get a feel of the surface, which could cause damage, so doing this by hand provides greater feedback, thus minimizing the risks in restoration efforts.

The overhead window fell out during the move back in October 2024, and it’s currently away for refurbishment.

Turns out a basic box fan fits perfectly into one of the overhead windows on the flight deck of the Space Shuttle! Wonder why they didn’t use this technique for keeping the crew cabin fresh and ventilated when on-orbit during mission operations. Way cheaper than typical life support systems!

With all of this renewed attention on Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, now's a great time to mention the backup crew for Apollo 14 made their own patch, which includes both of the characters in a true Wile E. Coyote "we're after you" vibe over top of the actual Apollo 14 flight patch.

A version of the flight patch for Apollo 14, but at the top in stylized writing "BEEP BEEP" is present, along with Wile E. Coyote rocketing off of the Earth staring down Road Runner, who is happily on the Moon standing next to the flag of the United States of America.

A few weeks ago a friend offered to fix our non-working watches. We picked them up last night, and he busted out his extensive watch collection, including a classic Soviet pilot watch [a Gagarin Mark II] that had a radium/zinc sulfate lume. Here’s our dosimeter showing how spicy it is!

We were interviewed yesterday on The Planetary Society’s podcast, “Planetary Radio”, about the SpaceX upper stage that had impacted the Moon last week. Episode should be out within the week. It was a ton of fun talking science in the house that Carl Sagan built, and they want us to come back!

Our favorite rocket is the Delta II because it flew payloads to all Earth orbital altitudes,bdifferent solar system targets, even space telescopes. It was the first rocket with 100 consecutive successful launches. We especially love that for GPS sat launches they’d paint a shark mouth on the rocket.

A Delta II rocket sits on the launchpad in Florida at sunset. Being a GPS launch, supported by USAF, a shark mouth and eyes are painted on the rocket’s fairing. That’s cool as fuck.

Very happy that as of yesterday the building construction project where our Space Shuttle restoration project, OV-001, will be displayed, has officially started! It starts not with a bang, but with a claiming of street parking where the construction firm’s temporary trailer offices will go.
