People don’t feel good about the economy despite all these great numbers because all those stats are fluffed up. Besides that, day to day living is more expensive. Fake jobs being added to some stat sheet doesn’t make up for higher grocery bills, higher utilities, and higher gas prices.

Last month, the country added an impressive 162,000 jobs. The unemployment rate is low. The stock market and artificial intelligence are making many people rich and boosting retirement savings.
Yet surveys tell us Americans are still in a funk. Their sour mood doesn't match up with what major indicators say about how the U.S. economy is performing.

Missouri lawmakers released a 14-page guide this week to help your town negotiate with Al companies.
The document format looked eerily familiar. So l asked them, did Al write your guide? The chairman said no large language model was used. One of his colleagues said my Al detection tools were "quite a stretch." Which is fair, because Al-generated text detectors guess. So we stopped guessing and opened the file the House posted on its own website.

This edition is a long one, but I think you'll forgive me.

In it: I run an experiment that changed my mind about the future of game development, a friend of mine does something wonderful with cardboard, and Roberta and I dodge bears in Alaska.

Let's start with the experiment.

I don’t know that I have the final answer, but I do have a fresh perspective.

When Roberta and I developed our most recent game, Colossal Cave 3D, we started the project with just a friend of mine, Marcus Mera, and me. Within a few weeks we actually had the game running.

David Hearn had just finished a loop around Hains Point on Friday as part of a 52-mile bike ride when he swung by the Lincoln Memorial to see the refurbished Reflecting Pool for himself.

Noticing a piece of the new “American flag blue” liner that was partially detached from the pool bottom, Hearn said he reached into the water to see what it felt like. Moments later, as the Bethesda man prepared to leave, U.S. Park Police officers arrested him on a misdemeanor charge of destruction of government property. He is scheduled to appear in D.C. Superior Court on July 9.

Big shoutout to the Missouri GOP for taking books away from Children. They have been threatening libraries for years so this isn't surprising.

In 2023, the State of Missouri and The Dollywood Foundation formed a partnership to fully fund the Imagination Library statewide, so that every eligible child in Missouri could receive free books at home. That partnership grew quickly. Today, nearly 170,000 Missouri children receive a book from Dolly each month.
The current state budget includes a significant reduction in funding for this program, driven by decisions made at the state legislature and the governor's office. Because of that reduction, the program will close to new enrollments on
July 1, 2026.
If your child is already enrolled, books will continue arriving until the funds run out. We expect that to happen within 4 to 6 months.
What are we doing about it
The Dollywood Foundation is working with members of the Missouri House and Senate to seek restoration of full funding before the budget is finalized. We are also exploring other funding sources to help keep books going for children who are currently enrolled. We will keep you updated as that work continues.

That’s right, I design logos! I don’t share this stuff often enough, even though it and design in general is my main bread and butter. Anyway, I’m way late to the trend of doing one of these layouts. I don’t really pay attention to trends, and picking samples of work is really difficult for me.

Some very questionable Fallout 76 graphics. What is your guess, AI generated or poorly reused assets? If it was 3 years ago it be a different story but in 2026 you immediately would think these were AI generated. Fo76 was always slop so it wouldn’t surprise me.

Fallout 76 shop graphics. NCR Trooper bundle features vault boy as a trooper and the besides odd proportions the belt just stops and vanishes. The west coast summer bundle has vault boy not actually part of the scene, floating above the chair.
