BREAKING: SCOTUS allows the Trump admin to restart third-country removals under a policy found by lower courts to violate federal law. The Democratic appointees dissent. The deportations will be OK'ed at least through the next several months, with SCOTUS agreeing to hear the case in December.

order and judgment of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, case No. 1:25-cv-10676, are stayed.
The application is also treated as a petition for a writ of
certiorari, and the petition is granted. The parties are directed to brief and argue the following questions: (1) Whether
the district court had jurisdiction over Respondents' claims.
(2) Whether the district court had authority to enter classwide declaratory relief and APA vacatur under 8 U. S. C. §1252(f) (1).
(3) Whether the Government's Guidance on third-country removals
is unlawful under 8 U.S. C. §1231(b), the Due Process Clause, or FARRA/CAT and its implementing regulations. (4) Such other
questions that the Government determines are appropriate for the
proper disposition of the case. The Clerk is directed to
establish a briefing schedule that will allow the case to be argued in the December 2026 argument session. The stay shall

Healthcare Should Be A Human Right

We need better, more affordable healthcare.

The GOP had 15 years to come up with an alternative to Obamacare, and it did nothing. Twenty-one percent of CD-6 residents are currently on Medicaid, and many benefited from ACA subsidies that just expired, massively increasing premiums. Do we really want premiums for small business owners like hairdresser Allison Greeley of Roanoke going from $200 to $1,200 a month? With more uninsured people visiting emergency rooms for basic care, everyone's insurance premiums will dramatically increase. In the meantime:

Look for drug overdoses to spike again. Virginia's expansion of Medicaid allowed increased access to effective treatment for substance-use disorders and played a major role in reducing overdose deaths. With 350,000 Virginians soon to lose their Medicaid, "addiction treatment will be set back 20 years," according to Roanoke's Dr. Cheri Hartman, especially for young men disproportionately dying from overdose and suicide. Having written

two books about the opioid crisis, including "Dopesick," I know treatment works when it's easier to access than dope.

Look for our veterans to wait longer to receive less efficient health care. The Republicans and Ben Cline voted three times in 2025 alone to cut VA benefits, claiming falsely that the most efficient health system in our nation suffers from fraud, waste and abuse. Almost 40,000 VA employees lost their jobs in 2025 through DOGE-pushed buyout offers and attrition, with 35,000 more pink slips predicted to land. I support fully funding and staffing VA because VA works well, with years of research proving that it's better,

faster, and less expensive than the private sector. In contrast, Cline voted to privatize VA, following the Project 2025 playbook, and to cut funding for PACT ACT healthcare for disabled veterans

Look for rural communities to bear the brunt of OBBB and veteran cuts.

In Augusta and Rockbridge counties, three clinics closed in the aftermath of Trump/Cline's OBBB. A Fishersville hospital, Augusta Health, has projected $40 million in operating debt by 2034. Cuts at the Salem VA will impact 78,000 patients and providers.

I will fight for universal healthcare coverage including Medicare for All

I will fight for universal healthcare coverage including Medicare for All so that anyone can join and stop worrying about how they'll pay for an emergency room visit or a hospital stay. A majority of voters support this approach. Medicare for All will let seniors age in place. It guarantees that everyone will have healthcare rather than be at the mercy of private health insurance companies or not have any coverage at all. It's our surest path to stave off the health care deserts Cline promotes.

In Virginia, eight rural hospitals are at immediate risk of closure at a time when rural residents' lifespan is already two-three years behind urban residents'. Rural mothers are dying in childbirth at twice the rate of urban moms, a situation that will only make hospital closures more dire.

Why are we spending more on health care but getting sicker? Everyone in the world's richest country should be able to see a doctor and get the medicine they need without going broke.
