Across thousands of hours of observing, as well as earning an Astronomy degree; I don't recall ever viewing a nova that required a telescope. I'm sure there are plenty of them, but that is not a common pursuit for amateur astronomers. 010

(I ran a planetarium at the time and so I was highly attuned to all of the major constellations in the northern sky.) 110

Some 7 footers are easier for Wemby to deal with as they don't have the strength or ability to make him work hard, but I understand the attitude. 000

The predawn emergence of Venus from behind the crescent moon was one of the most unexpectedly astonishing and beautiful observations that I made in my life. 010

During those 10 minutes I observed 3 other quite bright Perseids as well as a sporadic bolide! Several other members of our local astronomy group were also witnesses to this awesome display back in 1973. 000
