Celebrating #WorldMigratoryBirdDay with a nighttime wader mist-netting session in the Tagus Estuary, Portugal. 🎯Over 200 birds from 12 species of waders were safely caught and processed. A fantastic effort for avian conservation and research! 🌌🦅 @uaveiro.bsky.social @euring.bsky.social

Maçanicos of Sta Maria 🐦 The #Kentish_plover pop on Sta Maria Island (Azores) is the largest in PT islands. #ECOTOP_UC & #CESAM_Univ, with the Natural Park, GPS-tagged birds to study their habits, especially their curious bond with cattle. Stay tuned!

A short expedition to the Bijagós archipelago to monitor shorebirds. Great to find good numbers and many colour-ringed birds at some of our study sites. Including Abu, a whimbrel tagged in Nov2018 and still transmitting. Follow Abu's northward migration (soon) at: www.globalflywaynetwork.org

The last large flock of #btgodwits (almost 20K) in the Tagus estuary, perhaps waiting for better weather conditions to complete their northward migration. Much more colourful now as some #ruffs gather.

Last week, 56,000 #btgodwits were counted in the rice fields of the #Tagus estuary, the highest concentration of the species in the EAF. In this rice field alone, 36K godwits were recorded by drone! #LifeGodwitflyway
