Half of 3 butternut squash going into the oven, each one weighs about 1.7 kilos, around 4 pounds. I've got at least another dozen to roast and vacuum seal for winter soups and pies. And still more in the garden.

I stepped out onto our porch and this little guy was slamming into the windows trying to get out. I'm not sure how he got in, everything was closed. But now he's out and about.

I'm guessing goldfinch, others were hanging upside down in the butterfly bush. They were here about an hour, and have never been seen again.

We volunteered to be traffic cops at the breast cancer march in Chinon France. Lots of help, hopefully there will be lots of runners and walkers.

I picked all our tomateos before we took off for a week. This is what I picked when we got back. A few vines have died already, but usually they would be mostly dead this late in the season. That's the biggest tomato I've ever picked.

We're hanging out in Auvergne this week. An interesting art project is called Horizons. Every year 10 artists create large sculptures placed in remote areas. We visited 2 today.

Halfway through September and my green beans are finally starting to produce. And the tomatoes are still going nuts. I put 5 kilos in the freezer this morning, went outside and picked these, plus the pile I gave the neighbors. Normally in France our tomato plants are dying by now.

I'm turning the old pig barn on our French farmhouse into an outdoor kitchen. On the left in the first pic is the original dirt mortar, on the right is a finished section with lime/silica mortar. The second pic shows the wall ready to mortar with the original dirt mortar removed.

I harvested my pumpkins and butternut squash. I already have 2 pumpkins ready to cook. I'll roast and freeze the meat for pies and soups. And the butternut vines have put out a second round of fruit. I don't know if there's time for them to mature but we'll use whatever for something.

I picked all the orange tomatoes Monday morning to take to a nephew and his wife. 4 days later we're back home and this is today's haul. There's still more for tomorrow or Monday and hundreds of green ones. I've never had a tomato harvest like this year.

I'm 70. I grew up learning to hide under a desk when the Russians dropped a bomb on us. I never imagined that I would have to worry that my foreign born wife(citizen of US for 18 years) of 45 years could be arrested and shipped off to some hellhole for no reason at all.

I put about $100 into my garden this year. It's doing great . The green beans just took off and the bell peppers cayenne and eggplants are thriving. Should have carrots soon. Just planted fall lettuce, spinach and beets

About 1830 every day this guy show up on a roof, sometimes ours, sometimes the neighbor's, calling loudly to another one just like him somewhere in the village. We think he lives in the rafters of our big barn, when he wakes up there he makes a lot of racket before flying to the roof.

I went out to look for meteors and this cutie was eating cat food. I'll take seeing a hedgehog over meteors any day. Unlike me they are nocturnal. Like me they avoid any unnecessary interaction with people.
