Article is a gift link but I’d be remiss to not point out this near treasonous behavior These Republicans are risking the lives of our troops and for no good reason
Most alarming to some senior officials is evidence that Iran has restored operational access to 30 of the 33 missile sites it maintains along the Strait of Hormuz, which could threaten American warships and oil tankers transiting the narrow waterway.

I was rereading Dobbs and this passage from the dissent struck me No precedent is safe but it will work both ways The sad part is that reliance interests are a very important purpose of our laws but republicans have ruined that
In the end, the majority
says, all it must say to override stare decisis is one thing:
that it believes Roe and Casey “egregiously wrong.” Ante,
at 70. That rule could equally spell the end of any precedent
with which a bare majority of the present Court disagrees.

Former Attorney General Xavier Becerra, now running for governor, defended his judgment when asked if he should have known that his former chief of staff, Deputy Attorney General Sean McCluskie, had stolen campaign funds from him.

Last fall, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento charged McCluskie, former Gov. Gavin Newsom aide Dana Williamson, and lobbyist Greg Campbell with conspiring to steal $225,000 from Becerra’s campaign accounts after McCluskie took a pay cut to follow Becerra to Washington, D.C. when Becerra became Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“First and foremost, we are all accountable for our actions and no one is above the law,” Becerra said during an endorsement interview with the McClatchy Editorial Board on Wednesday. “This was done completely outside of my vision and in fact, outside the vision of my attorneys for the campaign accounts.”

Affordability is a hoax to the grifter in chief
Remarkably, Trump barely acknowledged the economic consequences of his war, as Americans around the country continue to feel the sting of high gas prices. On the few occasions that Trump did touch on those issues, he largely brushed off the concerns as temporary and argued that the economy remained strong.

Nevertheless, economists have offered an increasingly dire set of predictions about the costs of the war. Some have revised down growth estimates, and revised up their projections for inflation and unemployment. And a handful have raised their odds that the U.S. could slip into recession if the war were to worsen considerably, driving oil prices even higher.

It’s all a lie. He may have gotten an even worse regime and shouldn’t have done this!
President Trump appears to be declaring “mission accomplished” on the war in the Oval Office after signing an executive order to restrict mail-in voting in federal elections. He asserted that he had stopped Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon and that “we have had regime change.” In Trump’s signature hyperbolic language, the president suggested that he had toppled two of Iran’s governments.

“We knocked out one regime. Then we knocked out a second regime,” Trump said. “Now we have a group of people that is very different and much more reasonable, much less radicalized. We have had regime change.”

The Free Narges Coalition, an Iranian advocacy group, said on Tuesday the life of the jailed human rights leader Narges Mohammadi was in “imminent danger” after she experienced a heart attack and was denied hospital treatment.

According to a report published by the organization, Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023, “appeared pale and weak with significant weight loss” during a March 29 visit. Known for her advocacy of women’s rights in Iran and her opposition to the death penalty, Mohammadi was imprisoned by the government on national security charges.

U.S. Central Command said on Saturday that the United States had struck more than 11,000 targets in Iran since the war began, adding that it had damaged or destroyed over 150 Iranian vessels.

The announcement, posted on social media, represents one of the few concrete updates provided by officials on the status of the war. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have not conducted a news conference since March 19.

And they are! Thank you for bringing up the pentagon’s failure to brief the press and American people in regards to a major war @adamsmith.house.gov
Representative Adam Smith of Washington, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, and 26 of his Democratic colleagues demanded on Friday that the Republican chairman of the panel hold a public hearing on the Iran war.

So far, Pentagon, State Department and intelligence officials have provided lawmakers only classified briefings, and legislators from both parties have complained about the paucity of information about costs, operations and munition shortages.

“We are deeply troubled by the lack of transparency from the Trump Administration and the Department of Defense, and its failure to keep the Congress and the American people informed,” the Democrats wrote in a letter.

This is not the access the media has come to expect from this administration 👀 they will turn on them Democrats can plant the seed even more by bringing this up It’s also disrespectful to the troops and America as a whole given this dire situation they’ve created
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will not hold a news conference this week, the Pentagon said on Thursday. That means it will be Monday at the earliest until the two leaders take questions from reporters on the state of the Iran war — at least 11 days since their last news conference on March 19.

Kingsley Wilson, the Pentagon press secretary, said in an email that Hegseth had provided updates at several public events with President Trump this week. And Adm. Brad Cooper, the head of U.S. Central Command, this week posted two short videotaped operational updates. But none of those events offered reporters an opportunity to question Hegseth or the admiral.

Great example of what reporters should be doing. Thanks Erica Green of NYT!
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking at the cabinet meeting, echoed President Trump’s claims that Iran has been at war with the United States for 47 years and that “every president should have done this,” referring to the war.

But other presidents have sought to address Iran’s nuclear plans diplomatically, including former President Barack Obama. And the glaring omission worth noting is that this is President Trump’s second term, meaning he was among the presidents in recent years who chose not to go to war with Iran. In fact, he called off a military strike against Iran in 2019 after Iran shot down a U.S. drone in international airspace. As planes were in the air, and with minutes to spare, he pulled back citing the possibility of Iranian casualties.

So the regime just sort of gave up export controls and then started a war 🤦‍♀️ This whole piece is highly disturbing and full of information that media doesn’t report
China, Russia, and Iran continue to work together to circumvent and evade Western sanctions and export controls. Meanwhile, the United States has been inconsistent in implementing economic restrictions. After the last Trump-Xi summit in October 2025, Washington suspended the Bureau of Industry and Security Affiliate Rule in exchange for China’s lifting of export controls on critical minerals, effectively revealing how much leverage Beijing retains through its dominance in rare-earth supply chains. Additionally, Washington is easing oil sanctions on Moscow and Tehran in response to rising energy prices and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, exposing the precise issues on which the US is willing to compromise.
As the White House diverts its attention toward the Middle East, the Trump-Xi summit, originally scheduled for next week, was postponed until May. However, a productive push on China could also advance the US position in the Iran conflict. In his meeting with Xi—if not sooner—Trump should confront China’s role in enabling these supply chains, tightening scrutiny of Chinese exports and intermediaries that facilitate sanctions evasion. The White House must make stronger export control

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said had spoken with President Trump on Monday, and that Trump believed it was possible to “leverage” the military achievements in the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran to “realize the objectives of the war in an agreement.” Netanyahu’s comments, in a video statement, appeared to refer obliquely to Trump’s assertion that negotiations with Iran were underway. He said Israel would nonetheless continue to strike in Iran and Lebanon. “We will preserve our vital interests in every situation,” he said.

Exactly. Chaos in the bond market is sadly what it takes to get through to these screwballs
Before President Trump’s announcement about talks with Iran to end the war, the 10-year Treasury yield, which reflects government borrowing costs over a decade, rose past 4.40 percent for the first time this year, and was close to crossing the 4.5 percent threshold before Trump issued his statement. This is around the same level that prompted Trump to cite the bond market when he pulled back from his initial tariff announcement last April.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that to calm the markets, the United States was thinking about releasing more from the Strategic Oil Reserve, which the administration had failed to refill to capacity in the run-up to the war. But more strikingly, he has discussed suspending sanctions on Iranian oil already at sea — in an effort to free up roughly 140 million barrels — as another way to tamp down prices.

Some military advisers did warn before the war that Iran could launch an aggressive campaign in response, and would view the U.S.-Israeli attack as a threat to its existence. The uproar among Democrats over the Trump administration’s refusal to answer basic questions about the war in Iran continues to grow louder.
